Talk Derby to Me!! - Official 2011 Kentucky Derby Festival Marathon and Mini-Marathon

If anyone is around Saturday Night there is annother baseball game with $2 drafts, and laterr in the evening there is a concert, with free admission for anyone with a finishers medal.

Mike

Wish we could stay another night. We LOVE watching minor league baseball and what could be better than free admission and cheap beer. Unfortunately we have to drive north to Cincinnati as hubby and I are doing the Flying Pig on Sunday morning.

I am going to have to pass on any meet ups. I am planning on squeezing in every little bit of time I can exploring Derby/Churchill Downs stuff. My dad was big into horse racing (as an owner) and I know he would have loved to see all of this. So, I am going to see it for him. :-)

Just to clarify, I think the concert at waterfront park (which is right across from the stadium) is free--with a Pegasus pin. I don't think the ball game is free but the tickets are cheap.

Here's a link to the baseball team:

There's a restaurant at the stadium as well, which is fun. It's a brewpub.

There is also a balloon glow that same weekend.

Here is a link to the derby festival and all that's going on. It's a pretty busy weekend!:goodvibes

We are a week away from race day. Walking Colleen and others who werer not interested in a meet, do you want to try and meet at the "W" sign in the meet area?

I might be able to stop by, but as I may have said, I'm going down with my training group-about 10 of us doing the race so I know that we'll all be coming to the start together and I don't know if our coach has anything in particular planned for us that morning.

On a different note, do you know of any way for me to pick up race packets for my hubby and my sister. The website says no-can't pick packets up for anyone else. I am able to take a 1/2 day off work on Friday so I'll be coming down from Cincy earlier with others from my group. Hubby has to wait for DS to get out of school and sister can't take time off work so they will be cutting it close to get into Louisville in time for packet pick up on Friday. Thanks for any help/advice.

The news up here in Michigan keeps saying that Louisville is "underwater". Has anyone else heard this?

There are some roads closed along the river, and more rain for the next several days. Thursday the weather turns sunny for the rest of the week. 56 for the overnight low on raceday and a high around 75.

The start and most of the course is on relatively high ground. They may need a couple of last minute detours and to move the finish a little.

Thanks Mike!

If you can, keep us posted. I need to know if I should bring my snorkel. :rotfl2:

So we went downtown last night to a baseball game, and the river is definitely spilling out of it's banks.

If you are coming from out of town, the 3rd street exit off of I-64 is closed. You can easily get down to Main Street, but a lot of the side streets north of Main are flooded. Some of the flood walls are up.

The biggest thing--do not drive around barricades. If you go down a street with water covering the roadway, assume it's too deep for your car and turn around. We had to turn around last night, because the area where we normally park is underwater.

There is still plenty of parking downtown, just be safe. I'm not sure when the river is supposed to crest, but they are calling for one more round of nasty storms this afternoon, and then I think that's it. Friday and Saturday there is only a 10% chance of precipitation.:goodvibes

We got more rain last night. Be aware of road closures near the river. If it looks flooded, don't try to drive through it. We should be dry and sunny today and tomorrow. Low 50s at start, up into the 60s by the mini finish and low 70s by the full finish. High tomorrow should be near 78, so a good evening for baseball. Not sure what is up with the concert, look for info at the expo.

Good luck everyone with your race. I'll look for wish shirts. I'll be one of the 300+ people in the GE team shirts.

Hope everyone has a great race and great day.

I saw a news article that said the course had to be tweaked a bit. It will still be a certified course and can be used as a BQ. All should be good for those participating.

Have fun and tell me all about it!
