Disney Cruise Day 1
Current mood: bored
After arguing with my dad that we can board the cruise at noon as opposed to 1, he finally confirmed I was right. I didn't really care, I was just ready to go and didn't want to wait another hour. So, off to Cape Canaveral (about an hour) with Jay driving and Rheannon in the back seat. We were following the car with my parents and brother and his girlfriend. Rheannon would scream everytime they got a car ahead of us. Paranoid little girl.
Finally made it there, dropped the $40 for parking and made it through about 3 security areas and onto the boat. Holy cow that thing is big! We were directed up to eat at Beach Blanket Buffet up on deck 9. It was pretty good, nothing to write home about. Although, after being warned by both parents that we are not to just get drunk on the entire cruise (yeah, sure), dad goes and buys us all the souvenir bahama mama cup with $2.50 refills all day...this is at noon, folks, and who's the drunk?
Moving on and working on a buzz, we go sign Rheannon up for the Oceaneers club (for those of you who don't know, you put your kids in this and they will never leave---it's like kiddie crack). Make reservations for Palo (the only place you have to pay for food, but the brunch was worth the $10) and finally head back to the room to unpack. Frantically throw things in closets, carefully put the jager and vodka we brought in the mini fridge and head off to the party upstairs as we leave port. With refillable bahama mama cups in tow, we find the parents already somewhat buzzed and demanding that I buy them more drinks. It's a good thing I used to be a server, carrying 4 bahama mamas up a flight of deck stairs dodging characters, little kids, and fellow drunkards.
So, blah blah blah, we took off, it was amazing. Took a bunch of pictures and then we were off to change for the "parental required" show and dinner. At this point, we get back to the cabin and we're trying to determine if we'd already drank too much or the boat was rocking...it looked like everyone else was to, we were all walking around and then all at the same time shift to the right, balance, shift to the left. Apparently, Ophelia had us in some rough waters. Good thing I've got a tough stomach, or there would be good chance for bahama mama regurgitation. This and I'm in 4 inch heels...fun fun..
On with it, the show was hercules. Rheannon loved it, but I'm sure she would have more if she wasn't so tired. We then headed off to our 8:30 dinner seating. Food was good, the wine was better and Rheannon passed out on the chair under the table cloth.
We took her back to our room (we had a queen bed and the couch flipped over into a twin for Rheannon) and she proceeded to semi wake up and start screaming for her Grammy. We called, they said bring her up, so up she went and we went to scope out the ship. Headed to Cadillacs for a drink and some sinatra, plus you could smoke in this bar after nine. Chatted with bartender and then headed out to check out waves, the other bar. It was '80's night and Jay was overly unimpressed, while I loved it. At this point, my mind gets a little hazy after the shots of jager in the room and beers and bahama mamas. I know we went down to the room, ordered room service, just because we could, drank another beer and passed out. One fabulous first day, despite the shrieking of the woken child and we knew when we woke up, we would be in Nassau.
