Taking Uber instead of DME

I know we will be using DME when we arrive in Disney, but I am thinking about taking an Uber XL to MCO instead of DME. I’d rather not have to worry about getting to the airport on time and I definitely don’t want to lug our luggage up two flights to check it.

I have two questions.
1. Do I have to inform Disney I won’t be taking DME back? This is something I may decide while on my trip.
2. Does anyone know if Southwest is checking any luggage at the curb at MCO?

I only know the answer to #1 which is no, you don't need to inform them. It would be nice to, but you don't have to.

You ABSOLUTELY should let them know if you decide not to use DME back to the airport. If you happen to be the only person at your hotel departing at the time, the bus may make an unnecessary stop and hold everyone up. There was a report of that happening recently.

As a courtesy let DME know of your decision. There is nothing worse than sitting on a loaded bus waiting for a person who is scheduled to ride, is a no show and driver as a courtesy waits a few minutes.

Good point about the scheduling of buses. Is this as simple as going down to the front desk or would I call the number associated with DME?

Yes - you can either call the DME extension from your room or stop at the front desk whichever is more convenient.

As someone who has been on a DME bus that on two separate return trips stopped at a resort and waited on a guest that never showed up I I appreciate those who take the time to cancel the return trip if not using it.

Southwest had curbside check-in (which I used) on Thursday, July 22nd. Uber dropped me off right in front of it.

Perfect! This is what I was hoping to hear.
