My DH is in SC looking for a job - I may go down for the weekend and thinking of taking the train, it is a little cheaper, it takes longer.

I will drive back home with DH because he drove down.

I have never taken the train, how is it. Just curious to hear your experience with taking a train. I will be going from NJ - to Charleston, SC

Thanks,

DH and I took the train from BWI (Baltimore Airport train station) to NYC. We had a great time, it was a comfortable ride. We really enjoyed not having to worry about driving into the city. That was our good train story. Now for the bad.

We were sending my son, 14, on the train from Baltimore to Richmond, VA. to visit his Aunt. He said the trip down was good, the trian was on time and because he was traveling alone they checked on him quite a bit. But the trip back was a nightmare. When he got to the train station they learned the train was running over 3 hours late. So my SIL calls me to ask what we should do. I called Amtrack and they told me not to put my child on that train at any cost. It seems the train was packed and they had run out of food and drinks and because they were running late that they could not take on anything at the stops that were planned. So I ended up driving from PA to Richmond to pick up my son. What a mess!! After looking how much it would have been for him to fly or take the train, I think next time he will fly!

Thank you -

If I fly I will have to drive to Atlantic City, about 3 hours, that is the cheapest flight on Spirit.

I don't know what to do - the train just seems easier to get to and I can drive all the way home with DH.

Take your own toilet paper, hand wipes and a can of lysol and you'll "probably" survive. :teeth:

My family and I took a train to Florida once. We had a private cabin, and it was great, but I love trains and would have enjoyed it no matter where on it we stayed. It took us, I believe, 24 hours to get there from Newark.

It was a lot of fun, and I'd love to do it again.
