Taking the scenic route

We are planning on driving straight down 95, stopping for the night in maybe Brunswick Georgia. I am thinking about switching over to A1A in Jacksonville and picking up interstate 4 in Datona. Id like to stop somewhere for a meal on or near the beach. Has anyone taken this route. I'd like to hear your comments and experiences. How much time did it add on to you trip and was it worth it? Is there an area that you would recommend to stop.
