Taking the Red Eye -

I have booked a stay at the Disneyland Hotel and am more than excited! On our last day, we would like to spend the day in the park before having to hightail it to LAX for our red eye flight back east. We would love to have a place to shower and freshen up before we leave for the airport. Late checkout doesn't seem to be a possibility and we don't want to pay for a whole extra night at Disney.

Does Disney have anyplace to shower and change? The spa at the Grand Californian?

Or If I booked a good neighbor hotel for that day, I would have a place to shower before heading to the airport. Are there any good neighbor hotels within walking distance of the Disneyland Hotel? We're looking for the cheapest (we really just want to shower).

We stayed at DLH and took a red-eye back just last month. DLH will not give you a late checkout and does not have showers. There are several hotels within walking distance (<15 min), but do you really want to pay $130+ just to shower? You can use the pool shower to rinse off and change in one of the bathrooms. Just make sure you tell them at checkout that you will be using the pool for the day, otherwise your key card will not work for pool entrance after you check out. Make sure you leave enough time to get to the airport with the unpredictable traffic & car rental return if you have one.

You wouldn't be able to use the spa/gym without an active key card. I would go on a site like hotels.com and find the cheapest and closest hotel and book it for the day. Or, depending on how many you are, you can get a day pass for the Delta or American Airlines lounge for $50. They have showers.

If you check out the resort on Google Maps, you will see that the esplanade between the two parks has Downtown Disney on one side, which you'll walk through to get to the Disneyland hotel, and the bus drop off lot on the opposite side, which you walk through to get to Harbor Blvd., where the closest Good Neighbor Hotels are located. There are a ton of hotels on that strip, some popular ones are the Tropicana, Park Vue Inn, The Carousel, Best Western Park Place Inn, and more. They'll be about 100.00 a night, which is a pretty expensive shower, but much cheaper than the DLH. Book as soon as possible for the best prices, or try the Hotel Tonight app for a last minute deal!

I second the airline lounge idea if that's an option. It can be a hassle to cross the esplanade with luggage. You have to wait for an escort and I've heard of some people (not sure I really believe them, but) being flat out told no. If you're looking for a cheap room try Katella or Ball, they're easier to get to from DLH.

You could also get a cheap room near LAX that has a free airport shuttle. Just leave earlier for the airport, but at least you'll be near the airport so you can judge how much time you'd have before departure.

I have taken the red-eye from LAX and will do so again in December. I have also flown overnight to Europe a number of times - all without taking a shower before getting on the plane in the evening. I survived, and you will, too. I'd just get cleaned up as best as possible when you get to the airport.

I have taken the red eye before coming back from Hawaii and it was fine. But I hadn't spent all day in a theme park the day of departure. I think the airline lounge sounds like the best bet! I did find some low rates for good neighbor hotels, but @SMD is right; I won't feel like lugging my luggage around.

I have this same problem and have been trying to decide what to do! My red-eye, though, is a 12 hour flight to Asia, so I definitely need a shower beforehand.... Will look into the lounge option...
