What is the secret to taking clear photographs of pins? I tried last night and either (1) the flash reflected off of the pin, or (2) the picture came out blurry because I was too close. Is the trick to take the shot from a distance and crop? :confused3

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

The only thing that works for me is having my DH take the pics with his micro (or is it macro one or the other) lens - what else works is to scan them - that way it gets rid of the glare

use macro setting

turn off flash, shoo from a slight angle

should be no problem

when i send in my pictures to pinpics, i just put my pin directly on my scanner
and
i like to put a black piece of colored paper behind the pin

or look at pinpics.com and see every pin already photographed

Not sure how I did it, but last night I finally managed to take a picture of the pin that I was listing on ebay. My camera (Samsung) couldn't get the picture. But I used my husband's Sony Cybershot, played around with some buttons and got it to take a decent picture finally.

Scan them....I have taken pics of the akward ones....Best thing to do, put it on a corkboard, then take a pic with closeup and good lighting....

This is one I did like that:

Scanners work the best, though...Good luck!

Scanning is by far the easiest. I recommend pinning the pin to a piece of paper, a grey or other neutral, mid tone color works best. I find white works well but black can sometimes make the edges hard to see. For photographing I've take the pin out side, again pin it to something preferably smooth or with very little texture, and shoot it in a bright area but not in direct sunlight. About the only reason I'd photograph a pin instead of scan it is because the colors are black or very dark and scanning can make the "gold" areas appear black.
