How long does it take to get our bags once we get to the resort. Arriving at 7:30 pm in MCO. I would really want to get the kids to bed so we can get a early start the next day...How long does it usually take to get your bags delivered to the room? Should I just leave the tags off and pick them up myself and take them to the bus?

Your luggage will arrive in your room several hours after your plane lands. Whenever flying, it is ALWAYS advisable to pack in your carry on luggage: medications, valuables, travel documents and whatever clothing will need for your first day/night at your destination (e.g. a change of clothes, pajamas, swimsuit, basic toiletries). This is in case the airline misdirects or loses your luggage (in 2005, those numbers were 3,000,000 temporarily misdirected and 200,000 just plain permanently lost).

Yeah, sure, you can leave the tags off and pick up all your luggage and drag it to the bus - don't forget to tip the driver - or you can do a small bit of planning ahead and take advantage of all the perks of DME.

The problem is, that's a lot of stuff for a family, and with the airlines cracking down, it's hard to get all that stuff in a carryon bag. Or even two carry on bags.

With a 7:30pm landing, I would expect you won't be in your room till 9:30. (Minimum 1 hour for DME, then up to an hour check-in).

I would pack a set of PJs and one set of clothes for everyone in a carry-on, then when you arrive at your resort, tell bell services to deliver the next morning.

Plus what about dinner, will you have dinner before you arrive MCO??

If you need to eat once you arrive, that can extend the time also before you are in your room, and most likely your bags will be in your room before you get settled.

Ah, but you're each entitled to one carry on and one personal item (purse, computer case, camera case, etc) - even the kids; and unless you have a box of diapers or something, this all really takes up much less room than it sounds.

BUT I'm not trying to convince YOU not to pick up your luggage, I'm just offering general advice.

They told us in Dec not to expect the luggage for 3-5 hours after your arrival. They will hold the bags for you and you can have them delivered in the morning. Ours took almost 5 hours. We got into the airport at 10pm due to flight delays from snow. We didn't have everything in our carry on because we didn't expect to be delayed so long. We got our luggage at 2:30. I waited up for it and unpacked while everyone slept.

It could take up to three hours to get your bags. Or you could get lucky and they could arrive within an hour or so. But, just to be on the safe side, I would pack pj's, clean undies, toiletries in a carryon. I always to this. Yes, we each have some sort of carryon each...dd has her backpack with the stuff she wants for the flight, dh usually has the electronics bag...camera, DVD player, cell phones, CD player, that sort of thing. I have a large tote (and sometimes an actual rolling bag) with a change of clothes for each of us, toiletries, meds..that sort of thing. It's just easier that way. Then, when I checked in, I would ask for my bags to be held until the next morning.

You could go to baggage claim and get your own bags, but with little kids that can be a hassle. My dd, now 12, has been traveling since she was 4 and has always been expected to 'lug' her own bag....well, at least her backpack when she was that little. Since she was about 6 she has taken responsibility for one bag each trip. That way we each have a bag, plus our carryon, if we have to go to baggage claim. But, if your kids are little, they can't lug a bag...so the parents have to be the pack mules, as well as keep the kids attached to you!!!
