Taking food into the Parks?

Ok - I know you are not supposed to take food into the parks and I am not trying to start a debate. My question is can you take small food items - thinking like a juice box and the prepackaged fruit chew pieces in? Now that they search your bags do they take food items?

I have the Dining Plan so I know there will be plenty of food but sometimes with 2 young children it is just easier to whip a quick snack out of my bag to keep everyone happy!

No they dont take your food, dont say a thing about it. We always had a sippy cup for ds in the diaper bag, as well as a few gerber fruit snacks/ banana/ cereal bars to entertain him in line. Not hidden at all, we had a mesh bag with the diapers, wipes and snacks to speed things up with security.

The only thing I have heard they have problems with is glass, so no glass bottles or glass baby food jars.

Oh yeah, no problem at all. In fact, we had more than one security person joke about the snacks looking good We just bring granola bars, fruit snacks, teddy grahams etc., and juice boxes and bottled water for the day - not a whole picnic, but enough in the bag that it is obvious...never a problem

That might be their "official" policy but they still allow it. The only thing they won't allow are glass containers and of course, alcohol. No worries.

Just another voice to say that taking food in is NO problem. We didn't "sneak" it at all. It was right there for security to see just like any other items in our backpacks. On 2 separate days we took lunch for all 6 of us, and on every other day we still had bottled water, munchies, emergency PB&J sandwiches, etc.

There's truly, truly no problem with taking food into the parks. I had this same question before I went (for the first time as a parent) in May, got great answers here on the DIS, and saved a lot of money and had a lot of convenience bringing our Gooding's delivered groceries into the parks each day.

While it is correct that they will not let you take glass containers into the parks the only exception is babyfood jars. Gerber does make some in plastic but not a large variety so they do allow you to bring in the glass ones.

We also bring a small cooler with food and some drinks into the park. My younger son is a type 1 diabetic and very allergic to peanuts so we need to have a few things along. Our cooler is searched with everything else and nothing is said.

Thanks for correcting me. Sorry about that. I just knew I had seen some threads with parents trying to find the veggies in plastic becuase of the glass rule, so I assumed that was the case. But we have never personally had to deal with it as ds was way past the baby food stage.
