Taking a van from airport and then rent a car at Disney?

We are thinking of taking a van service from the airport to the hotel and then renting a car at Disney. DS is handicapped and we need room for luggage, wheelchair, and all his"extras". We only would need a minivan to and from the airport and the cost of a mini van for our trip was $700+ (July 1-15). We thought of a shuttle but sometimes he gets upset waiting and he gets anxious around new people so we thought a van service to and from airport and then rent a smaller car at a cheaper rate at Disney as we do not use Disney transportation....we drive to the parks. Anyone ever do this???

We are going in April,we are using a town car service to drive us to wdw and then renting a compact car from the WDW Car Care center. It would be too hectic with luggage for 4 people.The town car will then drop me off at the car care center for the car pickup .The Car care center also provides shuttle service back to your wdw hotel if you want to do this in reverse back to airport
