Taking a chance with VGT

Greetings Everyone,
Have questions about cancelling a cruise and re-booking the same cruise because of the VGT price.
Thanks to Christophles for posting the latest VGT prices.
We at set to sail on the 4 night Bahama cruise on the Dream on November 1.
We have booked a 5A cabin(cabin 9060) for $2604.
The DCL web page confirms what Christophles posted: a Verandah cabin for 1876.
My questions are:
Has anyone done this in the past?
If so, were you happy with the cabin assigned?
Would you do it to save over $700?
Looking forward to any comments and\or thoughts.

Are you within the penalty phase for your cruise? I know some PIFs have been pushed out, but I haven't kept up-to-date on which ships/which cruise dates. Just make sure you can cancel without penalty or it likely will negate that savings.

Also, I think the *GT cruises are NOT included in some of the extended PIF/easy cancellation policies. So be sure you aren't going to need to cancel.

We rebooked our B2B Med/TA cruise when the *GT rates came out. We saved over $2000 by doing so, even after the penalties associated with cancelling.

Of course, we were happy with the room we got, it was a verandah instead of the oceanview we had originally booked.

Whether it's worth $700 to you or not, only you can answer.

Just be aware, you must pay in full at time of booking, and there are no refunds (unless that's changed due to COVID). Also, any onboard reservations you may have made (adult dining, tastings, whatever) are also cancelled and you must rebook those, if possible.

Right now we are greater than 60 days out, so no penalty would be charged.
DW really loves the split bathroom configuration and I am afraid of losing that feature.
Understand about paying in full and is not cancellable unless DCL cancels the cruise.

I'm pretty sure the accessible verandah rooms do not have a split bath and they can be assigned to VGT reservations because it happened to us on the Dream with an OGT reservation.

Our VGT we got an accessible corner cabin, large wrap around balcony on Fantasy, and can confirm no split bath but we loved it! Years ago after PIF I canceled our Panama Canal and rebooked VGT saving over $2,000 after cancellation penalty. I'd say go for it.

I have my eye on one too. I’ve done Vgt several times and always got a good cabins. It’s just the fact that it’s not part of the cancellation offer. It dcl cancels its all good, or if we are caught up by covid at sailing and have to cancel, I believe that’s an option. Plus we would buy insurance. We are already going to be in florida for the dates. I just have to decide. I’ve also been in a Vgt accessible cabin that was a rollin shower, no split bathroom too.

We have sailed *GT sailings on many, many cruises. We tend to book a lot of last minute cruises. We have always been happy with our assignments.

I would take the chance of getting a single bathroom for the savings of $700.

I wouldn't do it, but I am very sensitive to sound and really need to book particular locations on ships to try to ensure a bit more quiet if at all possible. With a GT rate, I'm always concerned I will be near an elevator or stairway or, even worse, a laundry room. I'm booked on a January 2022 cruise and could save $500 to go GT, but the extra cost to pick my stateroom is worth it to me. If you truly don't care where your stateroom is located and you are willing to roll the dice, go for it.

Yikes! Never had a room like that. We actually like being near elevators. We are usually up by 7, so I suppose it would be OK. Still, it’s giving me pause to book VGT. We probably have done one 5 times.

I’ve had this exact experience on the magic and wonder staying in a family (sleep 5) veranda which are on the top deck of those ships right below the pool deck. I swore I’d never stay midship on those again, they literally drag the chairs across the deck and it’s very loud. We love the aft rooms as they are quiet and if you need the restroom and its occupied by a family member it’s a quick walk up the stairs to the palo restrooms which is always empty and one of the nicest on the ship.

I once had a cabin under the pool deck and when they hosed off the deck, the water dripped onto my balcony. Real mess.

With the pandemic still going on, I would definitely buy trip insurance with "cancel for any reason" coverage, since the VGT (OGT, IGT) reservations don't have the same cancellation protection that a regular reservation has. It only adds a little bit to the cost.
