I just wondered if many people used a cab/taxi service within WDW? Can you take a taxi from your hotel to the parks and basically anywhere you need to go? I thought this would be a great idea if the buses or we are running behind to get wheree we need to go asap, is it possible? I know that there are cabs around but I wasn't sure if there were only certain places they were permitted to go??
Anyone have any input? :goodvibes

We have used cabs in the past, but usually to save time going somewhere, like to Pleasure Island or BoardWalk.

You could take cabs to many places, but if there isn't one sitting there ready (time of day, location, etc...), they have to be called. That adds several minutes. It could indeed save you time, though, if one was sitting there ready for passengers.

Hope that helps a little.

we have used cabs throughout wdw a number of times... most of the deluxe resorts have cabs available all the time... other resorts it's best to call from your room, and by the time you get to the main building/pick up area, the cab is there... we've taken them if we're going to a resort for a meal and don't want to take the time to go via a park to get there...

As already noted, taxis are normally waiting outside the deluxe resorts. Not sure about the mods or values. In any case if one is not there the Cast Member outside will call and get one for you right away.
That being said, you really will not need to take any taxis to any of the theme parks. Bus service and monorail from the MK resorts are available from early morning until about 1-2 hours after a theme park closes.
One thing you cannot do is take a taxi to the Magic Kingdom. Only Disney buses are allowed near the MK entrance. All other traffic must go to the TTC. If you want to take a taxi to the MK you should take it to the Contemporary, although without a dining reservations I don't know if the guard will let you enter. The Contemporary is about a seven minute walk to the MK entrance.

In my experience, I can usually get a cab within five minutes. You could call bell services as you are leaving your room, and telling them you need a cab, and it could very likely be waiting for you when you get there.

Just note that some of the cab trips can add up. It's under $10 to go from the Boardwalk to the POFQ, and about $5 or 6 from the Boardwalk to Pop. But a cab from the POFQ to the AKL cost me $17. Just be aware that it adds up quickly on the longer trips.
