Can someone tell me what is the best way to get from a Disney resort to Universal? I'm assuming Mears is the best and probably cheapest....if I do go with Mears, how long do they give you there? From the time the park opens till close? I'm trying to decide between Mears or renting a car? Any suggestions? I don't want to short our time at Universal but I don't really want to drive it either??

I can't help you, I always rent a car for this reason. I don't like to be dependent upon other people when on vacation.

If you call Mears up to 24 hours before you want to leave, they will arrange a pickup time at your resort. I took a van from CS that stopped at the Swolphin to pick up more passengers, then drove us to Sea World, then Universal. They drop you off right by the entrance to Universal where the building with the moving walkways is. The ride cost $12 roundtrip, I don't know what the fare is for children. They give you a ticket with the phone number on it; you call the number 2 hours before you want to leave and arrange for a pickup. I rode back to CSR on a big Mears bus that stopped at the Dolphin and CBR before CS and was still scheduled to drop by the All-Stars. I didn't consider it a bad way to travel, and much cheaper than car rental for one person. If you've got a big family, the car might be worth it, or going to a towncar service to get transportation for just your party.

We too have used Mears for this and have always had a good experience. Usually it is a van going out and a large bus going back. The van stops at several hotels, but we still got to Universal pretty promptly. The morning van has always been right on time. The bus has always been a little late for our return to WDW (we leave when the park closes), but never excessively so...just maybe five or ten minutes, probably because closing time is a very crowded time. We hate renting cars, so we always do a towncar to WDW from MCO and Mears if we want to run to Universal. Very convenient!!
