Taking a break from some of the parks until new attractions?

Finally got the DBF (now Fiance') to agree to another Orlando trip....in 2017 or 2018. But, we will be spending only a day or two at Disney to see Pandora, avoid anything behind construction walls and eat at Raglan Road. We will also visit Universal and spend some time at other central Florida venues. He was so bored with much of WDW on our last trip. For specifics, see trip report in my signature.

My understanding is that the Hub is still a mess. This is the most recent update I saw, and it is pretty bad: http://www.orlandoparksnews.com/2015/04/magic-kingdom-update-more-walls.html I'm hoping they'll have the major construction done before the summer busy season - I've never gone in June before and I can't imagine what a PITA it will be to get around the park with all those walls - but the only completion date I've seen is "2015" which makes me think they may take all year with it.

I remember when they first started the end date was for the holiday season 2015. So I'm guessing that means November sometime which sounds about right.

We are going in September but only getting a 1 day ticket might go to Universal for a few days. Hear that Disney???

Just did a Universal trip with one day at MK. It was perfect for us, we had a blast! It was enough fun to make us plan a return for December. Just choose your one day wisely and avoid EMH if you're staying off site.

It was still construction all around the front. I had to work hard to get decent pics that didn't have all the walls or fake facades in them. That being said, it didn't really impact our enjoyment of things as it didn't impact traffic flow. Nice unobstructed views of the castle from the bridge to the right (closest to the castle). Sorry, no idea about October. I'm hoping it's all gone when we go back in December.

Thanks everyone! We haven't decided on the week of 10/31 or 11/14 so maybe we'll go with 11/14 - never saw the holiday decorations yet. We always go for Halloween. I'm sick to my belly just thinking I'll miss MNSSHP this year...lol

This thread is very interesting. While its always different strokes for different folks some in the beginning were just rude and nasty GEEZ have a magical day.

As far as the subject at hand....no I will not skip a park, my family loves all the parks and on my upcoming 10 day trip I will be in all4 four at least 2 times. Every time I go which has been a minimum of twice a year for the last 5 years some years it was 4 times, it is a different experience for me. My first trip was 1986 as a 9 year old, I am now experiencing WDW through my daughters eyes she is 8 and her first trip she was 2.

There may be construction but to me that's progress and change. As magical as Disney is there is no pixie dust to change anything overnight. Yes they move slow but do you really want to visit the MK and hear jackhammers and drills as you walk down Main Street? A PP said you never see the construction site with any activity PRECISELY DISNEY'S objective.

This year will be my 25th trip and will be my first MNSSHP ON HALLOWEEN how cool is that I get the F&W and the first MVMCP of the year. Last August I was there and attended Villains Unleashed....ok ok it was a disaster but a new experience non the less.

There will be restaurants and snacks we haven't tried that we will try this time and of course the restaurants we will go to old favorites and sprinkle in something new. My view is not everyone's view but that is the beauty if the DIS!!!!!!!!!

Have you priced just 1 park hopping day at Disney recently? The first day at any central Florida theme park is extremely expensive. For about $1,300 you can buy Power Passes for your entire group. And do a day or 2 at Universal on all your upcoming Florida trips. Maybe not for this trip but another option would be to spend about $1,300 for 2 days at USF/IOA with park to park tickets and spend the night at one of the deluxe resorts where you'll get's unlimited express passes for both of your Universal days.

We have put DHS on the skip list. After our October trip I'll probably wait a couple years till Avatarland if finished before heading back or Disney. I may plan a Universal trip for 2016

We have been to WDW twice since DS was born 2.5 years ago. We are ready for a little break.

Never fear, Disney will still be getting money from us! We are going to DLR in October and are super-excited about all the 60th anniversary stuff! We're also considering a Disney Cruise for 2017. If WDW would get it together and open a Star Wars land or park, we would be on the first flight out of Indy

And do a day or 2 at Universal on all your upcoming Florida trips. Maybe not for this trip but another option would be to spend about $1,300 for 2 days at USF/IOA with park to park tickets and spend the night at one of the deluxe resorts where you'll get's unlimited express passes for both of your Universal days.

That's true, both resorts have really front-loaded the cost of the first day. It's a real concern when people try to do both Universal and Disney in one trip.

We bought APs for Universal last February because it made sense with the room discounts as well. Then we renewed them this past February for the cost of a one-day ticket, because the renewal rate at UOR is at such a great discount. So there are ways to lower the cost but it's still not insignificant when you try to do both.

I would love to tour the Southwest if I had a great, comfortable car and endless time. There are beautiful natural treasures, great towns and my favorite, ghost towns. It is a pest when you don't have much time though.

We drove from the Midwest across the Rockies, down into the 4 corners area and ping ponged between amazing national parks. It didn't feel like a driving trip any more because the drive WAS the attraction. From there we went into Disneyland then back out around roughly the same path, hitting different sights on the way back. I lost count, we've actually been to that area 5 times (only making it all the way to DL 4 times) but there are still things we haven't seen.

My favorite stop ever, Horseshoe Bend in Page, AZ. We didn't make it there until our 4th trip:

I think that's one of the reasons I love RSR so much. I (gasp!) really don't care that much about the movie. But I love love love red rock country.

If we ever stop going for Christmas, it's because we've chosen to see new things.

I was shopping for a TV the other day at Best Buy. To showcase the new Ultra HD tvs, they had the Seven Wonders on. My dad and I just stood in front of the TV in awe. We LOVE Disney. For us, it's not about the rides or even the food - it's about the feeling we get. It's about Christmas lasting 8 days for us, not just one. It's about getting up on December 26th and being together, not returning to our normal lives or going to work --- and on NYE, not worrying about plans or getting home safely. The food and rides are awesome, but they're simply an added pro to spending Xmas in Disney.

Anyway.. my dad and I threw around the idea of going to Disney every other year, rather than every year, and seeing things like Italy and other parts of the country. I made sure to throw in a "well, Disney does have Adventures by Disney!"

We won't be skipping any parks this trip, and I don't know that I could ever go to WDW often enough where I'd feel like I could skip a park. We just went last year, but there were a lot of things we didn't see in every park. Also as my kids get older/taller different things interest them and they are able to do more, so our trips will always be different. We'll likely take a year or two off after this year (since this is the last year the baby is free) so probably by the time we go back there will be even more new things to experience.

I'd love to go to Universal but want to wait until at least my oldest is tall enough for the Harry Potter attractions.

There are 20-25% discounts for AP holders on the Universal resorts with the Power Pass. We love the Universal Express Pass perk. Just watch the black out dates on the PP to make sure you can use the passes for your dates.

I lived near the gulf for years and went to the beach maybe once or twice yet I know there are some who would gladly spend every vacation at the beach. I've never lived in AZ or that part of the country at all, and while I realize it's very impressive, it's not my cup of tea either. We went to the Grand Canyon once on a trip to Vegas and I deemed it to be a big ditch. lol

Not to say others are wrong, but I just don't care for it. But give me a beautiful field of wheat or rolling hills and trees with lots of green grass and I'm in heaven. Which is probably why I continue to live where I do and why, until we can fly ( and I don't see that happening) it's going to take something bigger than what's there to get us on that drive.
