How young of a child would you take on POTC? When our daughter was 5 months we put her in the snuglie and took her on it, and I have seen people with their babies on it, but how young would you go?

I think the youngest I saw looked about 3-4 months old twins in a snugli with their parents.

I'd take a baby on as early as I took the baby to disneyland. At 1 DS nursed & slept through it. At 2 he sat staring, sucking on my shirt, a bit spooked. At 3 he went 1 time, hated it, and refused more rides. (he has since seen the first movie (long story, never EVER meant for him to see it this young, but he absolutely LOVES it and is constantly tweaking his home-made, self-done mainly, Jack Sparrow costume while incessantly watching the scene where we "meet" Jack Sparrow coming in on the sinking boat), and he promises that he is now "brave for the ride", and will go umpteen times for his 4th birthday trip)

So I'd take baby on as young as possible, to get as many rides in before they develop a sense of what they do and don't like in their toddler years. :)

Why?

My son slept through it at 18 months (we'd gotten in very late the night before). I think it's dark enough that some kids may well sleep through it. When my son was much younger, I'd carry him in a sling while I worked, and he slept all the time. Babies can sleep through almost anything.

I'm not sure how my son will do with at 2.5 but we'll see in 2 weeks. I highly doubt he'll sleep through it this time!

I took DS probably around 9 months for the first time, and he nursed comfortably in a sling. He nursed during the ride several of the succeeding visits- mainly because it was dark and he preferred to nurse when it was quiet (visually speaking). It never fazed him in the least. I'd bring any baby that was comfortable taking a bottle or nursing in the dark. It gives both mom and baby a break!

Yup as others said POTC is one of the rides with no height requirement so anyone no matter how young can ride. My friend took her two month old on and babe had a nice meal while Mom relaxed and saw the sights.

I always take my naps during those 3D shows. I haven't seen one all the way thru yet. tee hee and I'm much much older!

I also brought my baby on POTC (and IASW). She was about 3 months and nursed the whole time, in her sling...I totallt forgot about the slight drops, so gave a little start when we hit one, so just remember about those lol!

My DD was 16 months old on her first visit to DL and the POTC. She slept on Daddy's shoulder the whole ride. I think the rocking of the boats helped.

My son rode POTC for the first time when he was 6 weeks old. DH was there for a convention and we wanted to take our 3 year old, so the baby got to go to.

The youngest I took DS to DL was 10 months so he went then. Our last trip my niece was 3 months and she went on it just fine.

Funny story from my childhood... my parents took me and my sis on this ride. My sister was about 18 months old and right in the middle of potty training. We were at the back of the boat, my sister had to go.... so my mom held her bum over the edge of the boat and she went. I think she mostly ended up peeing in the boat. Anyway, my parents still laugh about it to this day.

(she also peed on a towel on a tour bus trip to Holywood!

And people complained about ashes in the water on POTC :rotfl:

That is a hysterical family story though.

Thank you for your responses. We are going in Oct and our baby should be around 6wks to 2 months by the time we go and my husband and I have been discussing if it would be okay to take the baby on the ride or not. That first hill is what concerns us both.

I would have taken our baby, except my preschooler hates all the dark rides at this point so someone had to stay with him anyway, so we just did a child swap instead.

We took my 6 month old DS on it last month and it was the biggest mistake ever!! When we were waiting in line, people were staring and whispering about us taking him on there. Even the CMs were staring at us! DS was fine for the first 30 seconds until we got to the first drop. He cried hysterically the entire ride and I tried to give him a bottle to calm him down but he refused it. He wound up throwing up all over me. I was sooooo embarrassed to get off the ride with my screaming baby. I felt like the worst mother in the world! :(

I don't know I saw other people getting on with their babies and no one was staring or whispering. I guess it all depends. When I asked the cast member at the ride entrance about child swap he said they really didn't offer it on POTC because it's considered a family ride that the whole family can go on, however if we had children who didn't want to go we were welcome to have the person staying with the kids wait at the exit while we went and then they were allowed to get on as soon as we got off.

Our youngest rode it at 3 months and fell right asleep. We began to use it as the "naptime" ride that trip.
