taking a 3 month old

I wanted to mention something which hasn't been.

We took our DS3 @ 6 months. The trip itself was totally fine with him, he LOVED the colours and sounds.

That being said I WOULD not suggest taking a baby that young, especially if like us it is a huge trip.

First my DS didn't sleep well and didn't sleep at all until after 2am. (Even at home) So although he didn't cry, I ended up walking the lobby night after night and being tired all day.

BUT for me the single biggest reason I will NEVER do it again was because he contracted a serious illness while we were on vacation. Our oldest son got sick first but not as badly about three days before going home. The rest of the family, but baby, got sick on our last full day but again not too badly. When we caught our return flight home our baby wasn't sick. By the time we landed he was rushed to our Children's Hospital with respiratory problems. We contracted (all of us!) a rare respiratory illness while at Disney. This of course isn't their fault, but is the reason why in the future I won't take a small child to a crowded place with people from all over the world sharing germs :) Everyone else in the family had strong enough immune systems to fight off the bug, my 6 month old didn't and ended up on oxygen. This illness still (at 2 years old) affects his lung function although we have been told he will outgrown the damage with age.

Yes he "could" have gotten sick anywhere. But in hind-sight airports, airplanes, theme parks seem like a more likely area for a LO to contract something unusual. Far more then the local park anyway.

I took my 3 DS at 2 months and it was great. No Problems at all. Disney does have great feeding areas and yes there are lots of rides you can go on. I also took my snugglie or sling and just carried the baby around with me. I can't believe that no one mentioned the switch passes which also work for your 4 year old. Any ride which has a height restriction you can request a switch pass. One parent rides with kids and when they get off you switch parents and up to three people can ride again. When your little guy gets older there are also convinient play areas outside the height restriction rides which will make him happy too.

I think the only concern is if you are flying. Rembmer to breast/bottle feed infant on take off or landing to avoid popping eardrums.
:rotfl:

we took ours at 6 months and he was normally cranky from time to time...but not at WDW. Being in the fresh air wore him out and we had him in one of those snuggies and he was very content.

I say go and have a good time, we took our granddaughter at the end of July the summer of 2009 for 10 nights. It was hot but we made a cover for the stoller so the baby could sleep without having the sun shine on her.

We had two fans blowing in the stroller but not on the baby. The fan would blow on wet cold wash coths. With the shade cover on her stroller was really cool down the stroller.
When the weather was really hot, I would take her to the baby station and feed her. We found that she wouldn't eat much of her bottle of formula, when it was really hot. So we fed her apple juice watered down between feeding.
She did really good and I must say it was really easy taking her at the age of 3 months, then it is now that she turned two years old.

Just make time for lots of stops at the baby station.
Make sure you wash your hands before you feed, diaper or touch your baby.
This is something that most people do any ways, but if you don't do it now, make sure you do it while on your trip, as there are a lot of germs.

I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time! The key is that your wife WANTS to go (and since it's her second she knows what to expect). I went to the parks in July with my sister's five week old baby and I was five months pregnant. I would never go with a newborn because it's not in me but my sister is the kind of person that thinks it's fine. He really was no trouble at all! They went back a few more times before he turned 1. Only thing to know is that whoever is wearing the baby will need to spend 15 minutes or whatever it may be in a part of the line that's the coolest possible (probably under fans) and then rejoin your party, and do that over and over. July was sweltering and August will be too. It won't be a problem keeping the baby cool enough if you hang back in the cooler areas.
