Take my own stroller or rent?

I was thinking, maybe it would be better to just rent a stroller. DD will be 3 by the time we go next May and she's already at that stage where she would rather pull her hair out than sit in a stroller. I was going to buy a newer one, but I guess why waste the money if she doesn't want to be in it. She likes to walk and be active and involved in everything. She probably feels like she's missing out by just sitting in a stroller going by everything. I know though that her little legs will definently get tired walking through those parks. I can just rent one as needed right? How much is it for the week, like $50? Maybe I would rather do that, than buy a whole new one that she doesn't even like being in on a regular day at home, let alone a regular day at Disney!

For that age, I'd probably rent if you are flying....If not, you could get an umbrella stroller for the resorts.

for a 3 year old, she will definitely get tired. If you have an extra $50 to spend on a stroller, then do so, but a better bet would be a small umbrella stroller from target or wal-mart for when she does get tired. And they do get tired. I would spend the $50 for stroller rental on other items or activities at disney.

I would bring one. There is a lot of walking outside the parks - more than you might realize. If you are at a resort, there is a good walk from your room to the transportation (bus stop/monorail/boat dock). And at the parks, there is a nice walk from the transportation to the park gate. It is easy for the kids in the morning, but carrying a tired/sleeping preschooler from the park to the bus and from the bus to your room might not be fun at the end of the day (when you are tired, too).

At MK, you might not need it a lot if she likes to walk. At Epcot, which is much bigger, she will probably need it. (And you will appreciate it too, if you are trying to get somewhere quickly. For example, we had a dinner ADR in the WS at Epcot, and we need to move quickly to get to the WS.) It is also nice to have them contained in crowds, depending on when you go.

If you bought something like the Maclaren Volo, it has good resale value. Or you could save it for your next trip. (It has a high weigt limit, so you could use it at 4 and 5 and maybe older, depeding on the weight of your child).

Is her current stroller one where she can get in and out of by herself? That might help her ride more at WDW - when she feels like she can decide when to get in and out.

Hi! I was in a similar situation last year, we had a stoller, but coming from the UK I didn't really want the hassle of transporting it, so I decided to leave it at home. My little girl was four, but I didn't think that she would be able to handle all the walking. I gave it a shot on the first day without a stroller and just as I thought she got really tired and cranky,, anyway I went to the walmart on vineland and found a really cute winnie the pooh stroller with sun canopy for just $14. It really helped with carrying the bags round the parks too as I was able to put them on the stroller handles. It was the best spend I made for the entire trip (especially when waiting an hour for the bus at the end of the night and my little girl fell asleep, it would have been really hard to carry her for that long) Its much cheaper than renting and you can just leave it behind if you don't want to keep it, my little girl liked it so much that I ended up bringing it home and its still going strong:cool1:
Maybe someone could start a stroller scheme like the fridge scheme?
Hope this helped??
Have a great trip

For a child that age, bring your own. Make sure it has a fully reclining seat, but basket, cu holders and a snap off tray infront of the seat. You will need a stroller every day and its like $10 a day, plus they are not comfortable for sleeping, which she will probably do in the stroller.

When we went, we didn't bring a stroller. The only time we rented a stroller was our day in MK. My kids love to walk and barely wanted to use the stroller in MK!! I am going to be against the crowd and say just to rent one. JMO.

I still have my Chicco Caddy from last trip. It's still in great condition and we haven't really used it much since then. I can't seem to find the weight maximum on it though. You think she'll still fit? She's about 32lbs now.

At 3 years old even the biggest stroller hater needs a stroller at Disney. It is a LOT of walking! I think with a 3 year old you could rent or bring your own. I like having my own, but that's just personal preference. The rentals are fine for a 3 year old but if you are going for a week you really could buy one for the same price as renting.

They sell these in the parks for $40 too
(click to make larger)

They are Kolkraft strollers.

I just thought I'd mention it. We're still planning on using a stroller on our next trip in October. We'll be there two weeks so bringing our own is definitely cheaper than renting. Every child is different but I know mine doesn't have the energy level required to do all the walking we do (our last trip we were at BWV for a week and we never used the boat transportation to Epcot or MGM - we did tons of walking outside the parks).

Definitely take your own. We were there in April with DD who is 3 1/2 and there is a lot of walking outside of the parks. When you rent a stroller there, they are for inside the parks only. Some of the resorts are huge and just walking from the park to the bus stop can be pretty far. Plus, they are nice for packages, rain gear, etc. An umbrella stoller is best - they fold more easily for getting on buses, boats, etc. Also, in the stoller parking areas at attractions, it is much easier to find your own stoller instead of your rented one that looks like all of the others - especially when CM's move them to make room for more and your stroller is no longer where you parked it.

I have 4 kids and have owned more strollers than I have had kids. This stroller, I bought at Walmart, and it is by far my favorite....regardless of how cheap it was. ($50) It is lightweight, folds with one hand, reclines, has a drink holder, and a basket. We take this everywhere (including WDW)

Just a thought...If you are flying, purchase this and have it shipped to You at WDW...

The tray can come off if you want it to for easy hopping in and out...

IMO, get a Maclaren now and bring it with you. It was handy at the airport and the areas outside of the parks (for instance, sometimes the kids...especially at the end of the day...need a seat while you are waiting for buses). The Maclaren folds up like an umbrella but is very sturdy. And we like it because it has high handles...which is nice for us taller folks!

We rented a double for our 3 year old niece, she like it because it was like a chair not a stroller and she could put her stuffed Minnie in there with her...it was large enough for her to lay down and take a nap.

We were going to get her the single until she pipped up and said "that is for babies, I'm a big girl, get me the chair" :rotfl:
