Tainted Halloween Candy. PLEASE LOOK!

I heard about the gold coins...what other manufacturers use it?

I'm pretty sure all my Hershey & Mars products are made in the USA, but I'm off to go check.

Yeah, which chocolate companies use this stuff?

the video addresses some of these questions:

it doesn't have to be made in China - I think! It could be made here with the imported milk powder - and possibly also egg powder. That is the idea I got - it is the milk powder. Also, he mentions some Hershey's is made in China!

It involves any food product with the milk (and possibly egg) powder imported.

I am going to spread the word! People need this info so they can make their own decisions!

I am just gonna return the stuf from Target and offer DD money for her candy - she would rather have a webkinz anyway!!!!!

OP - thank you!!!!!!:)

Yes. I think I will too.
I might even go buy the Webkinz and have them handy to whip out.
Webkinz will win every time! Good idea, Thanks!

What candy is safe?
I'm still confused.
:confused3

Living and working in Hershey for the Hershey corp., I can honestly tell you to not worry about any candy you get from The Hershey Company. This has been hammered into us over the past month our products do not contain melamine. This is a direct quote from our company's spokesman:

In the United States, Hershey's spokesman Kirk Saville said the company "has never purchased milk, including powdered milk, from China," and that he was "positive" no Hershey's suppliers receive milk products from the country.

I truly hope you're right. That video scared the heck out of me. I would hate to tell my kids they couldn't eat their loot. They are so looking forward to it.

Foods at risk: ANY food manufactured in China and potentially any food containing milk powder. US food manufacturers imported millions of pounds of milk powder from China before September 14th. The FDA continues to allow to be sold.

This includes chocolate, cookies, cakes, and even things like packaged macaroni and cheese.

How do we know what's really safe? :confused3 It isn't just crap that's Made in China.

Well, I can tell you that we are constanly reminded that our products do not contain melamine and as much chocolate as my family and the employees of the Hershey Company eat on a daily basis....we have not had one report of anyone getting ill. I probably eat at least 5 pieces of chocolate a day at work. We also get to try all the new products before they hit the shelf. I firmly believe that if there were anything in our products SOMEONE would have gotten sick by now. And our CEO assures us all the time that our candy is safe and melamine free. I have no reason to doubt him.

I wish it had been a lot more specific: actual names of candy involved; mac 'n cheese involved; products made in the US with this milk powder from China; etc..

Thank you for posting, but I did not find the scant information provided useful at all.. :(

Is it regular "passing out " candy, too? The products he was holding up were more of a novelty candy, not one that would be passed out as a treat. I wish we could have some specifics here.

It looks like for now I'll stick with Hershey's and probably small amounts of it. I plan on buying the rest of their Halloween candy and trading for some Webkinz.

I'll have to check on the Kraft macaroni and cheese packets. We don't eat too many packaged cookies, so I think we're o.k. there. Scary stuff.

Exactly! I just called DD and told her to check candy, cookies, cakes, and boxes of mac 'n cheese.. She was a little worried that I couldn't be more specific but I told her that was all I had - "vague" info..:sad2:

Straight from Krafts website. If you have a concern about a product, check the website, many of the major manufacturers in the US have some kind of information regarding this.

"In light of recent events in China, we would like to reassure our valued consumers about the safety of Kraft products, especially those containing milk ingredients.

Kraft does not use Chinese milk ingredients in US products or in any products made outside of China. Of the products we make in China, some do contain low levels of milk ingredients from that country. And we’re testing these ingredients to ensure their safety. While Kraft exports some of these products into a limited number of Asian countries, we do not export any products containing Chinese milk ingredients into North America, Europe, Latin America or Africa.

There have been questions about the ingredients used in our Oreo products made in China. Oreo products do not contain Chinese milk ingredients, no matter where they are made or sold.

We have full confidence in our food safety standards and systems. As always, our highest priority is to ensure the safety of our products and consumers around the world. "

That's great to know! Thanks for looking it up!
