You have been so helpful, Grumpy Pirate. Thanks a bunch! Given the specs I gave earlier, would that be a computer that could feasibly last 2-3 years?

I don't see why not. I have some that are five or six years old. With maintence, they will last a long time!

I'm sorry to hear that you won't be coming out Amanda!

Me, too. But the computer was just the last of a long list of things that's happened in the past month that made us rethink June:

1. Instead of keeping my car that I would have paid off this month, we had to buy a new car in June due to increasing gas costs and the number of things that we needed to repair on it.

2. We were audited :scared1: and the feds decided we owed them a bunch more. We're making monthly payments now on a loan we had to take out to pay them. We took out a loan because it was cheaper to take out a loan than it was to make payments to the govt.

3. Our state has announced a 10% education budget cut which will deifnitely mean no cost of living raises at the end of this fiscal year and probably the end of dh's 2nd job as a technology coach.

4. DD9 has recently been diagnosed as having an LD in written expression. This means for us no more removals from school for trips and that means trips when it is the most expensive.

5. The computer crashed and no matter how we look at it, we've got to keep our vacation account with the buffer it has in it for emergencies like this. For us, it's great we can buy another computer, but that also for the most part depletes the vacation fund because we refuse to dip into our anuities. Depleted vacation fund brings us short for the vacation and although I am sure we could swing it, I'd just feel better if we played things safe.

Now that's a long winded summary of what we're going through right now. Sorry. :(

I'm so sorry. I totally understand. Money is really tight pretty much everywhere right now. It's great that you guys are really responsible and are doing what you have to do. I've got to start pulling back on spending too. I budgeted one last minute trip for my friend and I in January because I won't be taking any time off for the rest of the year! But then it's strictly food, rent, gas, car insurance (which is crazy expensive)!

I'm debating or not whether to get a new car like you did. Mine is about 15 years old and it's not in bad shape but it doesn't get good mileage and it needs some repairs. So i'm thinking I could budget in a car payment every month for something new and reliable. After all, I am driving it across the country to Florida! :scared1: I was thinking something like a Jetta or maybe a Nissan. I just don't know what to do. Save the money or get something new...

We had a Ford Explorer which got 17 MPG highway. Now although the car was nice to carry everything in, I really did not need the car. Add to the ginormous car payment and the fact that it took $80-$90 per week to keep the truck on the road in gas, it was just too much. Then, the thing had about 140,000 miles on it, needed a new set of tires, the transmission was not doing great, and I had put off all of the 100,000 things I'm supposed to do, it made sense to buy my Focus.

I know, I know. A Ford Focus. For less than $20,000, though, my car has satellite radio, brand new everything, a sunroof, the SYNC hands free system, and gets 40mpg highway. It costs about $20 per week to put gas in the tank.

Honestly, I cut costs almost in half by buying a new car.

People look down at my Focus because it's a Ford, but I'm pleased with the purchase.

Well it sounds like you're very happy with it. I'll look into it. Right now i'm looking at a Jetta or Nissan but i'll check out the Focus too. I just want something with good mileage!

Mean Queen, I'm so sorry. Is your little one feeling better now?

She has a double ear infection. And I'm pretty sure I'm getting something worse than just a cold. I just want to go to sleep for the next few days. But as a mom, you know that's not possible.

Oh man I have to start planning this trip! And it's for a first timer too! I don't even know where to start :faint:

Sometimes random thoughts are my only thoughts. :goodvibes

I know how that is. Their also not so much random, but the weirdest thoughts at the most awkward and randomist times :rotfl2: What makes them funnier is that I have the straightest face when I say them. But then I think about what I just said and wonder why I said that....?

Good morning peepuls!!!!!!!

Everyone is being so quiet. Dell claims my new laptop will arrive tomorrow! I hope to be a posting fool when it gets here (as long as this crud I caught goes away.)

I had an ear infection a couple of years ago. They are so painful, no wonder why kids scream.
