already have my house lighting plan, switching to LED's this year. I have a device that plays music, and flashes the lights to the music!

That sounds really nice.

A new spelling.

Oops. :lmao: I obviously didn't proof read that one. Sometimes I catch myself typing the wrong word when I'm in a hurry. Such as their/there where/wear :rotfl:

I have a question....does anyone else think Christmas is coming earlier and earlier? Malls have Christmas up already and santa is already sitting there waiting for people to take picture with him. Do they remember that there is another holiday btwn? Thank goodness for Nordstroms lol. They have a sign saying "we at nordstroms believe in one holiday at a time, so therefore we will not be decorating for christmas until after thanksgiving." I loved that sign. I might have to steal it.......I mean borrow it...;)

Stores did seem to put out Xmas stuff early. Maybe they are hoping to extend the holiday season and sell more. I like this sign you speak of. I don't have a Nordstroms around here.

Dh just called. The vet says it was a gunshot wound.:sad2:

:scared1: Is it hunting season up there and he got in the wrong place at the wrong time? Or was just some sick person trying to scare off a "wild" animal by shooting randomly?

Thanks for the well wishes for Charlie. The best we can tell, a pair of hunters who are upset with us because we called the game warden to report their illegal hunting decided to use our dog as target practice last night. He was in the back yard and a small caliber weapon not typically used for deer hunting was used. We filed a formal police report and the officers were as disturbed as I am. The warden that handles animal cruelty cases will be at our home later tonight to take pictures of Charlie.

Charlie was one lucky dog. He was shot once and the wound went from one shoulder in the flesh part only to another shoulder in the flesh part only. He spent the night with the emergency vet and I had to pick him up at 7:00am to take him to our normal vet. He's at home, laying under my bed, which is his favorite place to hide.

We are pursuing these men. It's going to hard to prove that it was him, but the local animal cruelty officer is a good friend of the family. I think it's likely that given the suspicions and numerous complaints (not just us) about them, that they will lose the hunters' licenses. If that is the case, it is also likely that they may never be able to register a gun again.

Dh hunts, but he does so legally to put food on the table. These men do it purely for sport and don't care how many or what they kill.

The whole thing is disturbing because from what the first police officer said today, all evidence points to Charlie being shot on my back porch. DD9 was on the porch only minutes before we heard Charlie barking and a crack that we thought was possibly a limb falling.

Thanks again for your well wishes. Charlie truly is a member of our family and we love him dearly.

creativeamanda, I am so disturbed. I can't write on the DIS what I want to say about these so called men. Charlie is lucky to be alive. I feel sick. :sad1:

It is just to disturbing to comprehend how a human being could have such low disregard for someone's pet like that. I'm glad the law is going after people like that. They obviously are not responsible enough to own a gun.

I was shaking last night when I found out. I don't think I ever have been that mad in my life. After I posted last, I had to take him back to the vet because his wounds began to bleed again.

What's worse, is those men are back out there again tonight!

Charlie is lucky to be alive, certainly. Right now he is sitting on my lap. It's the only way to keep him from moving--allow him to sleep on my lap.

It's people like these men who make responsible gun owners like myself look bad.

These men should be arrested immediatly. They're a danger to everyone around them. So sorry Amanda. People can be so sick and cruel. Poor Charlie :( I hope he has a speedy recovery. It's scary what you said about your DD being out there earlier :scared:

If there was a chance that he was shot while on your porch, I would be calling law enforcement very quickly. If the people that shot him are willing to shoot at a house, it is obvious that they would not care if they hit a human.

That is showing what is called "a man endangering state of mind" on their part.

Well, DH is at the Animal Urgent Care with the cocker spaniel. Charlie apparently thinks he's some kind of protective guard dog. He got into a tussle with a wild animal (we don't know what kind) and he is pretty messed up. :( I just called my boss and told him I'd be out tomorrow. This is the same dog that got lost in the swamp in August. He's not very bright, but he's family and I hate that he got hurt.

I just don't want to see the bill for an emergency vet.

Poor little guy.

Good Morning

creativeamanda, how is Charlie?

Charlie's bleeding has slowed considerably. He goes back to the vet today at noon. He is taking 6 different prescriptions that I can only get into him by sticking it in cheese. Of course, that gives him horrendous toots.

Last night we closed the easement to the hunters (it's shared by my family, our neighbor, and the property owner). The owner of the property has rights to get back there, and we probably will receive a letter from them, but the police officer yesterday suggested we file for a restraining order and investigate whether or not the hunters actually have a right back there, since all they are doing is hunting.

I got nervous when I found out which officer was coming out to the house. He stopped me for speeding a few months back. The first thing he said was that he remembered me and that I did not get a ticket that day because I was so respectful to him. I didn't try to lie about why I was stopped, apologized, and he said he thought he did the right thing because he's seen me several times since and I am never speeding. (He doesn't realize I'm really just trying to save my gas mileage)

creativeamanda, good luck with everything. I hope he continues to improve.

Thanks. :goodvibes He's sleeping now.

I want to tell you all thanks for the prayers and well wishes and good vibes for Charlie. He truly is a member of our family and while the whole situation is disheartening, I am thankful most of all that he is going to be okay.

To add insult to injury, National Board scores were posted today. I didn't make it. I'm going to go through the retake process.

Please post this when you have the time. It's much appreciated. :flower3:

I will! These are on my home computer and I haven't had 6 seconds to be online at home this week but I'll try to get them up for you ASAP.

Got my picture taken with Tinkerbell!!!

You're my hero. :goodvibes

I have no words.
And believe me, that doesn't happen often.

Kisses for Charlie and hugs for you and your family. How horrifying to think that someone was on your porch with a gun hurting a member or your family, furry or otherwise.

Ugh.

Just.
Disgusted.

I hope things work out with this, for your sake, for Charlie's and for all the "sport"-hunted animals in your area. I'm certainly not going to start a big debate on the board here about hunting. I personally don't believe in the "sport" of it. Hunting for food and respecting laws, boundaries, etc. bothers me less. My BF used to hunt with his uncles when they lived on a few thousand acres in Kentucky. Mostly deer. But they always hunted as humanely as possible and always ate what they killed.
