Just popping in for a hello. Sooooo, hello!! :) Seems like everytime I peek in.... no one is around.

DeterminedOne...I hope things work out with your friend.:goodvibes

Mean Queen...Congratulations on the new computer. :thumbsup2

Have a great day ya'll. :goodvibes

Hello all. My Friday night was bittersweet. Me and hubby went to a Japanese restaurant where they prepare the food table side. That was the sweet part of the evening. The bitter part came when I was supposed to get together with a friend from work at a jazz club and she canceled at the last minute. She did the same thing last weekend. Not much of a friend, huh? I understand things come up but I can't stand it when people flake out on plans. I'm not inviting her out anymore and if she invites me I will decline. DH said I shouldn't be so bitter but I can't help it. I actually took the time to put on makeup then she canceled at the last minute. Grr!!! :headache:

Sorry to hear that. I got stood up for a date yesterday too :rotfl:

My dear new laptop
I really do think
you are the coolest thing
I've seen in Flamingo Pink.

With your 15 inch screen
and 320 gb hard drive,
I know I have the best
Dell XPS alive (that I can afford)

I just hope the next time
I'm in the living room,
this one doesn't hit the floor
with a great big boom.

Congrats on the laptop! I have spent the past 24 hours getting all of my pictures off of my external hard drive and onto my new desktop.

My Dell laptop for work is pink. It's an Inspiron, but I love the flamingo pink. It always made it certain that dh wouldn't snag it to do fantasy football when I have work to do. And don't listen to Grumpy Pirate. That laptop has been my best friend in the month since my other computer has not been quite right.

Your other computer hit the floor? Yikes! That's horrible.

I think I did good with my desktop--500GB hard drive. 2GB Memory (expandable to 4GB, which I'll probably do before long--at least I know enough to do that much on my own.)

The best part, of course, is the reason why I went for the 2GB instead of the 3GB memory card: the 20" Widescreen monitor. Why go for 17" when you can get a better monitor and video card for the same amount?

I hate it when people do that to me. I'm glad you enjoyed dinner, however. Your friend doesn't know the good time she missed. :goodvibes

Okay, ya'll this is my new quandry. . I cancelled the June trip because we needed to buy this computer. So we are going either June 2010 or November 2010. What would you do? Go in June, stay at POR, and go for 3 nights, 4 days, or wait until November (Thanksgiving) when I will have more personal days saved and stay longer perhaps at a Deluxe resort (I am thinking AKL or Beach Club)?

Congrats on the new laptop,

I am so sorry tht you got a pink one!

EVERYONE knows that pink will slow down the electrons, and you will not be able to post as fast as otheres here!!

hehehehehhehehehe

You are just jealous of both Mean Queen and me for our pink laptops. EVERYONE knows only cool people are eligible to get them and you weren't allowed through the background check. . .

hehehehehehehehehehehehe :rotfl:

(Of course I had to get my pink laptop through the school system as I really didn't qualify myself and so I had to buy a black desktop yesterday. At least I have the big widescreen LCD monitor. . . )

You know, except for the laptops in my classroom and office, I built all of the computers in my classroom at the last school I worked. That was 4 computers. It's not that I can't, it's just that I am too lazy to do it on my own. :rotfl: Plus, I can't put a warranty on my own work. . . I can buy parts under warranty, but that doesn't help when companies like to blame workmanship and not parts (that is, until an entire shipment they have sent to the school has failed.

A long time ago, we had a grant for new computers. We decided it would be better to teach the teachers how to build theirs, becasue if they could build it, the could troubleshoot. It was a good theory: on the last desktop that finally died last week, I did keep it running for 6.5 years. In that time, I added a 2nd hard drive, replaced a CDRW drive, added a ZIP Drive, added a memory card, and replaced a fan. The problem with the theory was that only a handful of teachers walked out able to fix computers.

I vote for waiting until Thanksgiving and staying at a Deluxe. We've stayed at AKL before and it's gorgeous all around - of course I'm sure you know that.

This is probably what we will do. I'm thinking of renting DVC points and staying in the villas.

That's a good plan. But if you are, be prepared to make the deal in late January. Reservations for home resorts are made at 11 months out. Thanksgiving will be a hard time to get unless it is your home (where you own.) But if you are staying longer, the villas would be great so you have your space and the kids have theirs.

Yeah, since it'll be 2010 before we go, I think I'll start looking and comparing this summer, then make the deal in January 2010. Then I can do some planning towards meals and decide whether I need the owner to do the dining plan for me. It's a lot more planning that way, but by that time, dd9 ll be 11, ds will be 9, and dd6 will be 8. I think just by the sheer sizes of us we will need more room. The third option is the Contemporary, but dh would prefer being nearer to Animal Kingdom than the Magic Kingdom. I don't care as long as I get to stay on property.

Explain something to me. . .why can't customer support for companies be based in either the United Kingdom or the United States? I just spent 30 minutes (20 of which I was on hold) with Technical Support for Hughesnet (our ISP). I knew what the problem was, but the lady I was on the phone with kept trying to tell me the problem (that I already knew the answer to). She never did answer my question. I finally told her that I needed to speak to her supervisor (4 times, mind you) to get an answer to my question.

Hughesnet has thresholds for usage based on the amount on downloads. Last night, because of the new computer, I hit my 450/24 hour threshold at 7pm. So, for the next 24 hours, my internet access was limited. (Think dial-up). I patiently waited until 7:50 pm to call and say, "Look, it's been over 24 hours and I'm still limited." All she could say is that it would take 24 hours. I finally said, "Lady, I know that. Give me a supervisor. I want to know why after my 24 hours was up I was still restricted." Instead of giving me a supervisor, she says, "I not think you know what I say to you."

I don't know if she did not understand that I knew the original problem or not or if people just deduct IQ points when they hear my strong Southern accent, but my face is still hot. I finally got the answer to my original question from the supervisor.

But why is technical support almost always based in India? There is a huge language barrier there, and for some reason, my accent being as strong as Goofy's doesn't make them understand me very well.

I never understand that either. If we're supposed to be able to talk to someone for support, they should be very fluent in the language they are supporting in. Especially since non-native speakers will not likely be able to "translate" all the dialects we have here.

Her attitude was that I did not understand. I understand more of the way persons from India speak English better than she thinks, as I have been mentor teacher for teachers from India for the past 2 years in my district. They (the teachers) call me all the time with questions, and I could see exactly from my conversation with her that she did not understand my question. It was the same as it always is at work. I'm not saying that all people from India have difficulties with understanding me, but I am saying that I have encountered it enough on a daily basis that I knew where the conversation was going South.

Good Sunday morning, all of you. . .

:lmao:

Morning all!

We're headed to the Bucs/Vikings game today. Go Bucs! It's the first game we've gone to in a long time. Football games don't tend to be very kid friendly. I think I've seen more fights at those than at hockey games.

You were up early CreativeAmanda. Good morning to you. Good morning, all.

Tell me about it. Good morning, DO :)

Have fun at the game. I can imagine that a football game can get a bit rowdy.
