Tagless Dis'ers / Formerly Tagless Dis'ers UNITE! - Part II

Here's the lastest on the new job situation. I'll try to make it short, but there are so many layers I don't know if it's possible.

When I got to work this morning the 3rd shift move-up supervisor came into my office and said "Congratulations on your new job." I laughed, 'cause I figured he was just speculating.

Once a month the plant manager has Town Hall Meetings in which all
employees attend. Since we are a 24/7 operation, the first meeting is with
3rd shift. He told me that it was announced in the meeting that the job went to me. Imagine how surprised I was since I haven't even been offered the job. :confused3 I'm glad he told me though 'cause I would have been flabergasted to hear it for the first time in front of a room full of people.

I went to the meeting, listened to the announcement and played it cool. But back to that later 'cause that's not the only announcement that was made. They announced that my current boss has been moved to a different department. :confused3 I was flabergasted once again. Not to mention disappointed that my boss never said anything to me about it. But that's not all.

They announced that "she" was being promoted to Operations Manager of my department and that me and the other supervisors will report to her. WTH? She's the worst supervisor I've ever seen. I'm not just saying that because I don't like her. That is one of the reasons I don't like her is because I think she's horrible at supervision! What's so horrible you ask? She has terrible communication skills, doesn't know how to keep confidential information confidential, works maybe five out of eight hours in a day and spends the rest of the time socializing but still manages to leave at the same time as her employees. As a matter of fact, most days she beats them out the door.

I'm not the only one to feel this way about her. In fact, many of the supervisors in the other departments were pushing to keep me on her shift because she's so horrible to work with. What the heck were they thinking by making her a manager? WTH? I've been racking my brain trying to figure out why they would do that. I can't understand why they wouldn't post the position and find someone who is actually qualified. I can only come up with two solutions. #1 -They're nuts. #2 - they know she can't handle it and are setting her up to fail so they can get rid of her. In any case, I'm so glad I applied for a different job because there is no way I could report to her. The department will lose a lot of good people when she's in charge.

Now, back to the job situation with me. After the meeting I approached the plant manager and asked if we could talk. I told him that an offer was never made to me and he seemed surprised but said that he would take care of it. He went on to say great things about me, how I'm one of the plant's best and brightest, how I've done such a wonderful job, especially in her absence, etc. He said he would talk to the HR manager and get something going. He also mentioned $$ but didn't say how much. I felt a little better after that meeting, but still somewhat put off they would make such an announcement without talking to me first. They'd better hope the job offer is lucrative, or they will have egg on their faces. Can you believe this? :confused3

The promotion of your "supervisor" sounds like a classic case of the Peter Principle to me...

"The Peter Principle is a colloquial principle of hierarchiology, stated as 'In a hierarchy every employee tends to rise to his level of incompetence.' Formulated by Dr. Laurence J. Peter in his 1968 book The Peter Principle, the principle pertains to the level of competence of the human resources in a hierarchical organisation. The principle explains the upward, downward, and lateral movement of personnel within a hierarchically organised system of ranks."

I read up on it and see your point.

Okaaaayyy...... So, you were offered a job that you didn't apply for?? And you don't want that job because you would have to report to "her." But you have applied for another job there, but haven't heard the results of that one yet. Right?!???....:scared:

I'm sorry I'm so confuuuuuusssed!

And the shuffling people all around the department sounds just like my DH's work. It's manufacturing, also 24/7, and they have their own version of your Town Hall meetings! I hear about those all the time and the insanity that goes on! :rotfl:

I know the drama is confusing - sometimes even to me. What happened was I applied for a job outside the department I'm currently in. Today in the meeting they announced that I did indeed get that job but what's weird about it is they never told me that and have yet to actually offer me the job.

At the same time they announced the manager over the department I'm currently in is moving to a different department. They are replacing him with the woman on first shift I've been covering for the last three months. The woman I don't like. If I don't take the new job, I would report to her in my current job. I hope that helps clear up the confusion.

Sounds like they have pushed your hand to take that new position or leave you back with a new bad boss. Hopefully, they want you enough for the new job to pay you well for the trouble.

Ok, I got it! :thumbsup2

Anyone seeing the eclipse tonight? I've got a great view out my front porch windows, and even set up my camera to take a few shots (it's my 35mm film camera so I won't have the results until I finish this roll of film....someday.)

It's so cloudy here we couldn't see a thing. So I'll have to wait on your pictures. I'm watching AI. The girls aren't doing so well.

I thought the girls in the first hour were terrible but they were much better in the second. I voted for #4 the Janis Joplin voice (Amy?) and numbers 9,10,11 and 12. I cant remember their names ... I remember Asia'h because that's a weird spelling of a name and I remember her dad passed away two days before auditions. The only others I remember were Carly and Syesha. I'm terrible with names unless they do something that truly blows me away.

It was way too cold (below 0) here last night to watch the eclipse. I'm so close to packing up the moving van and heading to Florida to get away from this cold weather. Unfortunately we're stuck here at least another 2 1/2 years, maybe more. :sad1:

I agree that Asia'h and Syesha did well. One girl did horrible from the minute she started singing, I think her name was Amy. She looked great, with a 1940's style do, but she did not sing well last night. I also expected much better from the first girl. I guess she can only sing Amazing Grace well. :confused3

Hi, everyone. I've been called off today, yeh!!!

DerterminedOne, Congratulations on your promotion. :flower3:

Mean Queen, Your trip to Vero Beech sounds great. What is it like there?

I saw part of AI last night. Loved the last three girls. That Phillipino (sp) girl has an awsome voice.

Ok, I'm not an AI fan but the way you all talk about it, I think I'll have to tune in next week! Guess it could be pretty amusing to watch people who can't sing, try!

I had an unexpected day off from work today, since DS8 was home sick from school and DH had an appointment this morning. I spent a lot of time reading my new Disney guide! I also officially got my quote for our trip, which I will be booking next week!!

I haven't been to Vero yet. I'm a West coast Florida girl, so it'll be nice to spend some time on the East coast beaches. I'll be sure to post lots after we go in September.

The wonderful part of AI is how talented some of these young people are. I just love watching. Carrie Underwood, a female country/western star, won AI a few years back. Now her songs are at the top of the charts, and she's winning many awards.

Ugh, all this talk of vacations is making me depressed. If I can put a big dent in my workload during the next 2 weeks, then we might get to take a short trip somewhere during the second week of March. I wish I could summon some Mickey magic and make my thesis write itself. :wizard:

Don't feel too badly... I'm planning a trip, yes, but I don't get to go now when it's freezing cold up here and there's snow up to my eyeballs. Of course, anytime is a good time to go to Disney, but it's always that much sweeter when it's a reprieve from winter! Right now I'm dreaming of the heat and humidity that we'll have when we go in September...!:cloud9:

School got cancelled due to 2 inches of snow and then we'll have the possibility of ice/sleet/freezing rain later today. I want spring. :sunny:
