Back in early 2004, it was discovered that quite a few folks on the Tagliarchy thread were planning October trips to WDW. The dates were coinciding, and people were getting excited. Not me. With a kid starting middle school in September and another starting third grade, I knew I couldn't pull off a family trip to WDW one month after the start of school. :(

Then I got thinking. My DH often says I should do more for myself, so why not go to WDW? There is no law that says you have to take your children with you to WDW, right? I mean, I knew I might get some hate mail from the DIS Mommy Police, but quite frankly, who cares? :teeth:

So I put up an ad on the Tagliarchy thread: "Wanted: Roommate for October Tag Meet. Women and gay men need only apply". It didn't take long, and Lewski709 was on board. :Pinkbounc This was going to be fun! But deep down I knew that two orange divas such as ourselves would really need a chaperone. That spring, the bright, mature, and (more importantly) sober, Kadaten declared that she was up to the task. The planning began.

The first to hear of my plans was my family. DH thought it was a great idea. The kids, Eric 10 and Hunter 8, just looked at me with expressions that said "Yup, as we thought, mom has gone off the deep end"(*1). Then they resumed their normal bickering.

So how does one tell their mother and MIL that they are ditching their families for fives days and heading for Disney World with a bunch of people they met on the internet but have never met in person? The answer. One doesn't. Well, at least not until the last minute. They did seem very happy for me when I finally did tell them. My mom's words were "Okay, I'll freeze some meals for the boys!". (Poor woman. She doesn't realize that it's 2004 and evolution has now seen to it that men have learned how to gather food without the help of a woman.)

My MIL is one of those people who love to talk about disasters. She's the first person you hear from after Florida has a hurricane or if Kansas has a tornado. If her second cousin's first husband's aunt died from a falling piano, the phone will surely ring. So, I'm sure she was thinking that I'd die a horrific death which involved ice picks and axes.

Hopefully, I'd prove her wrong.

So far, so good Barb! When do I come in? Huh, when? :hyper:

Yeah! I just found this........I knew to check trip reports before heading to bed....who needs sleep anyway?

Thanks for the link to the next installment, Katie :wave2:
