Table service restaurants for desert only?

Hi all.

Was wondering if anyone has gone to any of the table service restaurants around the parks or resorts and only had desert?

We are on the dining plan for our trip this September and have picked out the restaurants we want to go to but there are a few that we would still like to try, even if just to experience the ambience. This is obviously dependant on getting a walk in without a reservation so I'm not expecting to go to le cellier or anything mega popular!

Thanks.

You can make ADRs for dessert, and if you want to do those venues, make the ADR. Almost none of them will take a walk-in, save very late, or if they have a bar area.

Dropping in the bar area is actually a pretty good idea if you are not 100% certain of your schedule and definitely going. The bars associated with the nicer restaurants often allow you to order from the full menu and typically are much easier to find a seat, even if you have to wait a few minutes.

So I can make an adr just for desert without using any credits from my dining plan? That could work. Might try that for a couple of places.

Hmmm that's a good idea too. We've been to the bar at California grill. Just for drinks though, I didn't realise dining was an option there. We'd only be doing it for deserts, are you aware of any other places with bars you can go to order food?

Yes.

Save at a buffet or a special meal, you can order what you will. You needn't pay via Dining Plan at any meal, even if you have DDP. If you are elsewhere for dinner, you may end up with two desserts, though, because only a few restaurants allow you to swap a Table Service dessert for a cup of soup or side salad.

We've ordered from the full menu at the bar at the Tune In Lounge, which is in the waiting area of the 50's Prime Time Cafe. DD and I shared the fried chicken dinner, and they even brought it out on two separate plates for us.

There's no rule about what you order when you make dining reservations at most regular restaurants anywhere. We were actually planning on doing this at BOG for late Easter Sunday, just to have wine and dessert, but canceled it in lieu of dinner at another place later than we originally planned.

And yes, it's correct, no matter what you order, you decide whether to use a dining credit or pay out of pocket for whatever. There's no rule that because you have a reservation you must use your credits.

You certainly can. It isn't something I would ever do, save for Beaches and Cream, but people do it and it's fine.

We just did drinks and dessert at BOG on Sunday! It was great. The kids got cupcakes, I got a glass of wine, and Dad got a beer and we all got to see the Beast before we left. We tipped generously since our server missed out on a full meal.

Yes in places like the Garden Grill, you can see a desert. But I'm not sure you can get a table just for the viewing if you aren't ordering food? You probably will get pretty thirsty though!
