Table for 2 - A couple of big kids explore Disney (W/ pics) COMPLETED 9/18!

Day 2 was our first day out at the parks and based on my research, we decided to start at MGM. We brought breakfast stuff with us to have in the room, so we didn't have lunch until around 11 or 11:30. Based on an episode of the Food Network show Unwrapped we decided to try a turkey leg

dis36.jpg

As part of the dining plan, we got a turkey leg, a bag of chips, and a large drink.

We bit into the legs only to find the meat was red. I think this is how they are supposed to be, because they appeared to be cooked, but still it wasn't appetizing. We both ate some of it, but needless to say, we were disappointed and we won't be having turkey legs again. At least the chips were good!

After our nap, we returned to MGM for our 6:30 ADR at 50's Prime Time. DH had eaten here as a kid, and I was excited to try it, again, because of an episode of Unwrapped that highlighted it.

dis40.jpg

The atmosphere was wonderful. It was just like a 50's style home. The old style TV's played clips of 50's TV shows that we watched while we waited for our table.

dis41.jpg

dis42.jpg

We got there about 20 minutes early and waited about 10-15 minutes for our table. In that time, we saw about 3-4 people without ADRs turned away. The main reason, in my opinion, is because this is not a big place at all.

Cousin Joey was our waiter, who was very attentive despite being very busy. The first thing he had us do was sign a birthday card for one of our cousins who was having a birthday. It's very strange to be signing a card for someone you don't know, but we went with it anyhow.

DH started off with a Caesar Salad and I got the shrimp cocktail

dis43.jpg

dis44.jpg

The salad was good..a very typical Caesar salad. DH's only complaint was that the croutons were a bit too hard.

My shrimp cocktail was good. I got 6 decent sized, ready to eat shrimp. The cocktail sauce was sweet and tangy, a pretty typical sauce.

Next came dinner. DH had the meatloaf and I had the pot roast.

dis45.jpg

dis46.jpg

DH loved the meatloaf. I thought it was ok. I am not a fan of Ketchup on my meatloaf, and that's not the sauce I use when I make it, but it wasn't bad. The potatoes were good, but we prefer the country style potatoes at WCC. The green beans were good, nice and crisp. DH ate these first, as we had been warned by cousin Joey that we had to ear out vegetables. DH didn't want to chance it! :rotfl:

My pot roast was delicious. It came pre-shredded with the carrots and onions mixed in and the potatoes underneath. It was tender and flavorful. Again, the potatoes were good, but we prefer the WCC potatoes.

Between the skillet the night before and the turkey leg at lunch, I was on meat overload! I ate as much of the pot roast as I could, but I still had some left so Cousin Joey got out the airplane and made me have one last bite! DH enjoyed that quite a bit! :rotfl:

Dessert for me was S'mores (I'm a S'mores addict, what can I say?!)

dis48.jpg

These were delicious! The chocolate was nice and melty. The marshmallows were just how I like them, a little charred to give a little crunch. It is a simple dessert, that is very enjoyable.

DH got a chocolate sundae

dis49.jpg

Again, a simple dessert but yummy none the less.

Coming up - Day 3...Tonga Toast at Captain Cook's, Columbia Harbor House, and Kona Cafe

Would you go back to Prime time?? After reading reviews.. it just sounds O.K.

Great reviews! I'm enjoying the pictures.

Hey neighbor! Great reviews. Can't wait to read more.

Great reviews and pics!
Personally, we don't like the Turkey Legs either, but I think the reson t5he meat appears red is because they are smoked(which is why I can;t stand them and call them "ham on a stick" ).....:)

DH got the cinnamon vanilla tortilla (or as Heda called it, the Cinnamon Vanilla dustbowl)
dis20.jpg

This was very yummy. The tortilla had a nice, sweet crunch and the bananas and caramel were perfectly matched with the vanilla ice cream.

I now know what I'm getting for dessert when we go to WCC. That looks so yummy.

Great start !!
Did you know Hedda Lettuce is a DISer ? :cool1:

That is so cool.

Hey thats me!!!

Burberry plaid, I'm glad you had a good dinner.

Maybe I'll see you in November, we have lunch ressies on the 28th.

Dummy me forgot to ask my question. Is the salad the only option as a appetizer when getting the skillet? DH hates salad and I'm pretty sure that he will pick the skillet.

I'm really looking forward to more reviews. We have most of the places you ate on out list in Nov.!

Excellent. Now i'm wishing I got the Chocolate Sundae rather than the S'mores at 50's Prime Time!

Yay more visitors! :yay:

Yummy! I'm very much enjoying this review! Those smores look delicious!
Thank you and the S'mores were delicious!

Great report so far. I'm looking forward to morepopcorn::.
Thank you and part 3 is coming up! :)

Thank you!

Glad you're enjoying it! :)

Great reviews and pics! I can't wait for more!
Thank you!

Would you go back to Prime time?? After reading reviews.. it just sounds O.K.
Honestly, Prime Time was probably my least favorite TS meal. It wasn't awful or anything..I liked the food alright, but there are certainly better options out there in my opinion. I would go back because DH loved it so much, but if it were up to me alone, I'd probably try something else next time.

Awesome review! The pictures are making me so hungry!
Thank you..and the pics make me want to go enjoy the food all over again too!

Great reviews! I'm enjoying the pictures.
Thanks!

more! more!
Ask and you shall receive... :)

Thank you! :)

Hey neighbor! Great reviews. Can't wait to read more.
Hi neighbor! Thanks for stopping in!

Great reviews and pics!

OMG they are SOOOO ham on a stick! Yeah, I figured they were supposed to be red..but that doesn't make them anymore appealing to me.

Dummy me forgot to ask my question. Is the salad the only option as a appetizer when getting the skillet? DH hates salad and I'm pretty sure that he will pick the skillet.
We were told that salad was the appetizer that came with the skillet. I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask if they'd be willing to substitute the salad for something else though..maybe soup.

Great reviews. Love the pictures. Looking forward to more.
Thank you!

I'm really looking forward to more reviews. We have most of the places you ate on out list in Nov.!
Awesome..thanks for stopping by. I hope you'll find our reviews helpful!

Excellent. Now i'm wishing I got the Chocolate Sundae rather than the S'mores at 50's Prime Time!
Oh yes..the sundae was yummy, from what I was told. I guess you'll have to have it next time! :)

OK..I think I replied to everyone. I like to give everyone a little shout out just so you know I read your comments and I appreciate you reading our report.

And now without further ado..I bring you Day 3

Day 3 was our first day at the Magic Kingdom. DH was really excited to get some Tonga Toast, and since we had an ADR for breakfast at the Crystal Palace for our second Magic Kingdom day, we decided to get Tonga Toast at Captain Cook's today.

We took the boat from Wilderness Lodge over to the Magic Kingdom and then took the monorail to the Poly. We got to Captain Cook's and tried to use the automatic ordering, but the machine we were trying to use was all wonky so the cashier had to ring it up manually. We both got Tonga Toast with a side of bacon.

dis55.jpg

DH loved it. He said it was just like how he remembered it as a kid. I thought it was ok..a little too sweet for me. I LOVE sweets, so for me to say it was too sweet means it was just too much. I'm glad I tried it though..I had to try it once right?

We paid for the Tonga Toast OOP as I figured we would want lunch later on and I didn't want to use our CS credit for the day on it. It ended up being about $13 so it wasn't bad at all.

We took the monorail back to the Magic Kingdom for some touring, then had lunch around 12:30 or so at Columbia Harbor House. It was wonderful!

dis63.jpg

I had the tuna sandwich with chips, a lemonade, and the triple chocolate cake. DH had fish and chips and the triple chocolate cake. I loved my sandwich. It was very fresh..light and refreshing. DH liked his fish and chips. I also loved the cake. DH liked his too, but didn't finish it because he was full. All in all, it was yummy and we'll definitely be going here again someday.

After lunch, we went back to Wilderness Lodge and napped. It was raining for a couple of hours, so sleep seemed like a good way to pass the time. By the time we woke up and got ready to go, the sun had returned. This time we took the boat to the Contemporary, and then took the monorail to the Poly where we had a 6:25 ADR at Kona Cafe. We got there around 6, so we visited some of the shops, then checked in around 6:15. We were seated in about 5 minutes.

Our hostess was super friendly and she showed us the dessert table. We knew we had our work cut out for us as there were a number of tempting choices on display.

Our waiter Eric, was very nice and attentive.

We started with the Lump Crab Cakes
dis69.jpg

and the Duck Pot Stickers
dis70.jpg

Both dishes were exquisite! The crab cakes had a sweet crunchiness that was just amazing. The pot stickers were amazing. I am not usually a duck person as I don't like anything "fowl" tasting, but these had no such taste. They were yummy and the creamy ginger soy sauce they came with was divine!

After our main appetizer was done, a person who appeared to be the manager came over and offered us a sample of a sesame shrimp she said they were trying out (sorry the picture isn't the greatest)

dis71.jpg

This was also delicious! I love sesame and the crisp, cool shrimp was a perfect combination for it.

Next came our entrees. I had the Macadamia Mahi Mahi
dis72.jpg

DH had the Panko breaded shrimp and scallops
dis73.jpg

The Mahi Mahi was out of this world! It was just so light and the macadamia nuts added just a bit of sweet crunchiness to it. I also loved the pairing of the fried onions and the bok choy. It was amazing!

DH loved the shrimp and scallops. They came with a spicy guava and passion fruit cream sauce that was just yummy! I am usually not a fan of panko breading, but this was done so perfectly, I didn't mind.

Just when we thought Dinner couldn't be more perfect, we got our dessert. We both ordered the Caramel banana creme brulee

dis74.jpg

Creme brulee is probably my most favorite dessert, and this one did not disappoint. It was sweet and delicious. My one complaint is that the top didn't seem to be warm the way it usually is when you order creme brulee. I didn't mind though. We both really liked it.

Kona was probably one of our Top 2 restaurants and we will definitely be coming back!

Coming Up: Sunshine Seasons and Le Cellier

Awesome reviews & pics. I can't believe that I am sooooo looking forward to that tuna sandwich at CHH!:rotfl: Also looking forward to KONA for our second time - DH got the Macadamia Mahi last time and I'm dying to try it this time!!:thumbsup2

That was so nice! They look so good. I'm glad you enjoyed this meal. I can't wait to try it out.

Great reviews! That CHH tuna sandwich looked tasty, looking forward to your next installment :thumbsup2

Happy to have you..and we really loved WCC too. I think some couples may be afraid of it, but it wasn't bad at all and we are shy people. so for us to recommend it, you know it has to be tolerable!

And I never even thought of it, but you're right, a proper S'more does not have cheese in it! :rotfl:

I was nervous about the antics also. But WCC sounded fab! We were actually sat off in a back right hand corner of the restaurant and it is very romantic back there. There is a giant fireplace and you are a bit misplaced from the rest of the restaurant. While we were back there, only one other family joined us. It was really nice (it is next to the kitchen though, so the staff is constantly walking by). We didn't experience any of the antics, but definately heard them. I remember when one waiter yelled out "EVERYONE BE QUIET SHE'S ON THE PHONE!" Eric starting rolling! I'm not sure if Eric missed out on the antics or not, but we were definately happy we went there!
