SYTYCD - So You Think You Can Dance Season 9

I missed the first episode because I was actually at the ballet. After reading the comments I'm looking forward to catching the show on demand :goodvibes

Jumping in because I love this show. I only saw part of the first audition episode--I'll get to it this weekend.

I love dance and this show, but honestly, I am so sick of these contemporary dance auditions, especially the women. I feel like if I've seen one, I've seen them all.

With DD's who dance and one who even danced competitively for a few years I know what you're saying -- and then some. It is incredibly special though when you get to see the dancer who has their own thing going on and it seems to spring right from their chest onto the stage.

Thanks to the PP for letting us know where the NY auditions were. I didn't hear them say on the show and it looked unfamiliar but very beautiful and interesting.

I too am so excited the season is starting. DH and I started watching season 2 together when we first began dating and ever since it has been our little thing. I was chatting with the owner of DD's studio the other day and found out that this year a couple of dancers and alums from the studio made it to Vegas, but no one on the show this year.

I love this show and so does DD. we watch together as she is a dancer.

The first girl on the show danced with DD last year. She's incredible.

How about that aerial pole dancer last night? She was good, but I was nervous for her when they showed her on the pole in those skimpy bottoms. You wouldn't want a slip on national TV!

I missed it last night because we were working in the yard, and then I had the last installment of Hatfields & McCoys to watch. Someday I will convince DH that we really do NEED a DVR. :rolleyes1

I think I have an early favorite - Eliana Gerard, the one who danced for Cirque De Solei and Alvin Ailey. She is beautiful and talented. Also, how about the brother sister at the end who survived the head-on collision? The fact that he could dance six weeks after being declared DOA is amazing. Loved the twin brothers who were over age. They cracked me up. And while the circus guy didn't cut it, that ring was mesmerizing.

RATS, I missed last night! :headache: It was on last Thurs night so I assumed it would be on this Thurs (tonight). Why does Fox do this and jump schedules around?! They do it with AI as well. Oh well, I guess I'm at the mercy of youtube since I don't have a cable provider to unlock the online episodes.

I'll definitely have to check out Eliana Gerard for sure...anyone else shine last night?

There was a male tapper whose father was a Vegas performer. A male ballet dancer, who at first looked awful because he performed his own choreography. They gave him a second chance, because Nigel "saw something" and he was clearly talented. The aforementioned brother and sister were really good. There was another female dancer, whose back story was that her mother threw her out of the house and she's been living with friends. They did ask her to do choreography, but clearly liked her. As a matter of fact, there weren't really any jokes last night, which I appreciated. Some interesting dancers that did not make it past choreography for one reason or another, like the circus performer and a whacker, who was actually pretty good.

Thank you - looks like I am going to have to do some digging as (it appears) Fox promptly removes unauthorized uploaded videos. I could not find anything on Eliana Gerard.

I am so very glad that they are putting ballet in the spotlight during auditions. :goodvibes Ballet is the foundation of any dance. It is extremely important for competiton/lyrical dancers to realize ballet is not all about tricks. You really need to dance with emotion and proper technique to stand out. Dislocated hips and rolling on the ground have little significance to professional dancers.

dd15 and I just watched last nights show. Wow, wow, wow and wow!!! I think I'm already looking forward to the tour!!! Loved the twins that were too old. When the ballet guy danced the second time, we both shouted "holy crap!!!" in unison like the twins! The circus guy was great. Great show so far.

To whoever missed it, the SYTYCD website will unlock the episode in 8 days. Definately worth the time.

I"ve been watching. I try not to get too involved until Vegas week. I've been happy so far. Lots of showcasing real dancers and not people being ridiculous.

Sounds like we missed a really great show. :(

I just hope "Sex" and his mother don't come back this year. I think they've played that one out. :rolleyes1

Hahaha "Sex" is hilarious! He did audition for like 5 seasons though. I think he expected a William Hung type of fame from it.

:rotfl: ITA. I think he got a different reaction than he thought he would. Gotta give it to his mom though, she's supportive until the bitter end!

The first two weeks have definitely been much more ballet heavy than I ever remember in the past. We're loving it here.

I cannot believe the one dancer actually came from Cincinnati Ballet & did not present himself much better than he did. Clearly he has some skills, but has zero idea how to demonstrate that.

Ordinarily the guy w/ the wheel would have annoyed me because it's just not dance, even Mary said the same. It was great to get a chance to see it. It was unique, it was mesmerizing, even loved his music. I loved it most because he was so genuine and sincere. His presence was amazing.

What about the martial arts guy? He was AMAZING. You could see he was a really good dancer as well, and I'm looking forward to him in the final 20.
