I have a pea sized squishy moveable lymph node in my neck for about two weeks which the doctor said was normal with a nasty head cold and infection but it won’t go away! So my question is how long do they normally stick around? It does not hurt or bother me but I have stay it does give me a little anxiety about being there.

They sometimes hang around a long time. DD had some swollen so long as an infant that they ended up taking them out and doing a biopsy (normal). I've had them on the back of my head for months at a time. I have noticed that if I rubbed them (the one on my head hurts), they hang around longer. It's like they thrive on attention. ;)

I wouldn't worry yet. I've had them last a long time (like a month or six weeks post infection). They also got hard and swollen with every little cold for a couple years after having mono in college. The doctor just said they were over-reacting after fighting off the mono.
My son also had them last a long time when he had eczema breakouts on his face (for the better part of a year). Of course, the eczema kept coming back and his skin was always irritated, which was the bulk of the problem.

Well they are getting a whole lot of attention from me because I check at least 10 times a day to see if it has gone away! :) I have had 3 different doctors tell me no worries two of which I saw when I had my horrible cold and this last one at my yearly appt so you would think I would just let it go. I will tell you this Google is not your friend when you are sick.

It can take several weeks for swollen lymph nodes to go away. If you hadn't been sick, that might be a reason for concern but the job of the lymph system is to help clean out germs so the swelling lingers after you feel better.

Years ago I went through testing after I discovered lymph nodes that weren't going down. Finally was told they were permanently swollen and were never going to go away.

I've had one on my jaw line for about 10 years now. Get used to it. Learn to love it. Give it a name! :cool1:

I've had one ever since mono 24 years ago. It never really goes away. I can always tell when I'm coming down with something. It's like an early warning system. Good luck with yours.
