Switching rooms on the ship...is it possible?

Does anyone know the possibilities of switching rooms with other guests on the ship? We are booked for a September cruise with my parents. Well, there is one room in between our rooms and that one room connects to my room. I don't know who is booked in that room, but we all have the same type of room and I would love it if I could get the "strangers" to switch rooms with my parents so that we can be connected. Have any of you ever contacted Disney ahead of time to try to switch rooms around or should I just wait until we get on the ship and beg the people next door to me to change rooms with my parents?

What cruise are you on? I'm Sept 8-11th, wouldn't it be funny if I was in the room you needed?

I would see if there are 2 connecting rooms available to switch and have you both reassigned.

For an August cruise, I was able to get the same category room, 4C, switched about 1 month ago!

Never hurts to try to make the switch now! In my opinion, highly unlikely that once you board the ship, the "neighbors" in your adjoining room will switch!

DCL will not ask a guest to move unless they are in a handicap room that they don't need and then DCL needs it for someone that is in a wheelchair.

That is not true. A couple of years ago, we sailed with our friends. We were both in 10C rooms, a few doors down from each other, but hers was a connecting room, which was used by DCL for their officers as an office of sorts at the time. I think it was the 3rd night of our 7 night cruise, they asked them to switch rooms. In this case into a much better room on deck 8 with an open verandah. They were even compensated $100 on board credit for their troubles of having to move. Apparently the people that had the verandah room had a sudden need for 2 connecting rooms instead.
So DCL will move someone if there is a need for the room, even if it is not a HA room.

They will NOT take request from guests to ask another guest to switch rooms with them, if the guests are complete strangers and not traveling together

So basically you cannot call DCL and say can you see if the people in room X would want to switch rooms with us or X family? They will not do it

I suggest calling DCL and seeing if anything can be done (if any other connecting rooms are available).

I think it is unfair to directly ask a family to switch rooms when on board. You never know the reasons they are in that room and it may create some guilt/awkward times. You wouldn't want to be responsible for creating some negative feelings that impact a families vacation. Besides I don't know if DCL would even allow it.

I think it would be very inappropriate to beg the people next to you to switch rooms with your your parents. Although they may be willing to accommodate you it will not be without some inconvience to them, the room would have to be switched thru DCL. How much time and hassle this would take I am not sure, but I do not think it is fair to put your neighbors thru this. Why did you not deal with this when you made the reservation?

I would work with DCL prior to the cruise as well, you never know two connecting might open up at any point. With this in mind I was thinking about it and if it was before we were unpacked and had no connections to anyone else close by I would probably switch rooms with someone so their family could have a connecting room provided it was the same category and DCL was ok with it. Just my 2 cents though...

Given that all onboard charges and credits are associated with the room itself, I would think switching after checkin/after room key assignment would be quite a bit of trouble. If it were me, I wouldn't switch only because I'd be concerned about maybe being billed for the other family's charges.

I'd also be prepared for the people to say "No". You might also want to bring some kind of small thank you for them in case they say "Yes" (perhaps a bottle of wine).

I'm sorry but if it were me, I doubt I would switch cabins.

I recall reading about a family that had two cabins separated by a single cabin. I think the family had two adults and two children. They asked the same questions on the DIS, came up with a plan, then reported back.

Here's what happened. They got onboard right away, and left a very nice note for the "neighbors" (before their neighbors arrived and unpacked). The note explained their predicament, asked very nicely if they wouldn't mind switching, and said if they did not hear from them, no problem, and wished them a nice cruise. The family did not settle into their cabins either.

The neighbors arrived, and said, "Sure, no problem." An adult from each family went down to guest services and made the switch.

The family later gave their neighbors a nice gift.

I think it helped that the cabin switch was done before anyone got unpacked or settled in.

I didn't mean "beg" literally It's not that important if we can't do it. I just thought that I would ask and if they say no, then oh well. It may be doing them a favor if they moved since there are kids in both of our rooms. We actually have a large group going on the cruise and my parents didn't think that they would be able to go, during the time of the trip, until after we had already booked. So, they booked the closest to us that they could. I may try to get connecting rooms in another location on board.

We are booked on the Dream, Sep 1-4th. yes, that would have been funny!

We did it, we were in a room that slept 3 and we had 4 in our family. Switched with friends who only needed 3. It wasn't a problem at all, go to guest relations on the ship and they will take care of it.

I don't think it's right to involve the other cruisers. Maybe they specifically requested that cabin for one of a dozen reasons. When you ask them, they may feel like they have to switch (as some people are not good with saying "no thank you") even though they want to keep that stateroom. Maybe they have stayed in that room before. Maybe it's special to them.

If you can get your rooms together through DCL, fantastic! I would call. Explain that your rooms are split and ask to be moved to rooms that are together, but to ask the other cruisers directly... I just don't think that's right. It's their vacation too - and who knows why they are in that specific stateroom.
