Switching reservations and what happens with the money deposit already paid

I booked with a deal a few months back, but free dining would be an upgrade from the deal I did. I was hoping a better deal would come in December for my trip and I do believe from statements here that a public code is coming at least for Visa credit card holders and free dining. So, I would like to know what happens with my previous booking and my deposit money.

I know you can change your booking but can the deposit be transferred to a new booking from your old one ( I want to change dates and add more time if a deal comes through for free dining)? I don't want to worry about getting a refund; I'd rather transfer that deposit money to the new reservation. Is this possible if I ask it to be done this way? or must the the old reservation be cancelled after the new one is booked with a new deposit?

yes, your deposit can be transferred -- we had bounceback free dining at Pop Century and upgraded to POFQ. They just took the deposit off the Pop booking & applied it to the POFQ reservation. Was not an issue at all.

If you are going from a package to a package, your deposit can be transferred.
If you are going from room only to room only, your deposit can be transferred.

If, however, you are going from room only to a package, or from a package to room only, your deposit cannot be transferred. They will make a new reservation for you with a different reservation number (room only is 16 digits, package is shorter with both numbers and letters) and you will pay the appropriate deposit. The prior reservation will be cancelled and your previously paid deposit refunded.

I have made a few payments on my room only with gift cards. If it turns out they offer some good package deal again in January, and they refund the cards, does anyone know what timeline the cards will be reloaded? I still have the original cards.

I do realize the error of my ways in that I should have only made one payment until I was sure (so I'd only have to worry about getting $92 back, not $700). I've never actually booked a package before so it never even crossed my mind. I just pay it off a little at a time with survey gift cards, then apply a AAA discount when the rates come out around August.

Thanks!
