Switching points between reservations?

I am considering buying some additional BLT points for a last minute trip but need some help. I currently am out of points for 2011 after having booked two trips. If I buy more points now, I will have 50 2009 points (Dec UY) of which I will only be using about 40 for my planned trip next weekend. Am I able to "switch" points already used for one of my current reservations ( in other words,use these 10 2009 points and get back 10 2010 points already tied up) without canceling the reservation?

It depends upon the kindness of Member Services, and whether the points are all 1)under the same membership number and 2) same home resort, especially if the original reservation was booked during the 11 month window.

Assuming you are purchasing the add-on directly through DVC, then ask your guide if these changes can be made.

It would be the same membership, purchased through DVC and not be at our home resort so reserved at less than 7 months out. If availability is there and we decide to add on, I'll have to ask my guide if that's something she can arrange. It wouldn't be a huge loss of points if it didn't work out but I'd hate to lose any!

I know that when you add on through Disney, they will replace borrowed points with new points (it is right in the POS, I believe).

I would think that they would be able to do the same with your new points since you currently have reservations. I am sure that your guide can help you to understand what you would be able to do.

Yes, this is possible to be done and it sounds like your situation should be fine since the reservation you want to switch points for was made at 7 months. Sometimes the trouble can be if you made it during your home resort period. I did not need my guide to do this - only called MS.

Just completed a fairly complicated points reallocation...

I had 170 points transferred in and wanted to use them to replace my BCV points (so I'd have them available for a T-giving 2011 reservation that I plan to make in December)...

I have four trips currently reserved...

The CM was terrific...she went through all sorts of possibilities (my current reservations are a mix of transferred points, current year points, and borrowed points)...

Turns out the only thing she could not do was reallocate my T-giving 2010 reservation points--because that reservation was made at 11 months, using current year points--and there is no availability now for the time/villa/resort of the reservation...

But all my seven-month reservations were "fair game" and she took quite a lot of time & used quite a lot of energy to reallocate so that I wound up with the most "useable" BCV points for 2011...
