Switching out points?

If I make reservations using current points within 7 months (so no priority), can I later switch out those points with other points I own?

To be more specific, I want to make a ressie for October at OKW using points from one of my current homes (VWL). I'm planning on closing on another contract in the near future. I would rather use those new points for my October vacation. Can I substitute the new points and free up my VWL points, or do I need to cancel and rebook?

Potentially yes and that's true even if you booked during the home resort priority but only after the 7 month window opens. All that you need is someone at MS who knows how to do it and is willing to, the points that will work for those days and days that are not sold out where you have a reservation.

It's always been a cancellation and rebooking for the day in question but it's possible even with different accounts and use years as long as the points are applicable for the resort and day in question.

You really need the right MS person, some will cancel with out holding and lose first reservation and no other rooms to re book. I have had it happen and so has my sister-in law

If there is a waitlist for the time and lodging you want/have, you will go to the bottom of the list. You could lose it.
