Swine Flu Update..........

I've just read this on MSN and the medical advice is that it is to be expected. Like any type of flu people unfortunetly die every year. Medical experts are saying they do not think the virus has mutated - but sadly this outcome was going to happen.

I agree, whilst is it very sad outcome for the people who do die. Thousands die every year from everyday flu so really all this is is another strain of it.

No doubt we will be busy in my line of work conveying people to hospital. The media have hyped it up to panic people. I'm not saying people shouldn't be concerned but put it this way, If frontline A&E staff aren't being vaccinated yet it can't be too bad

The media have hyped it up to panic people.

Well it's worked with me .
Although what you have said has made me feel a little better .

I am so,so worried about all of this-i just can't help it,honestly if i could just stay in this house with my girls+hubby and not go anywhere until it has gone-i would :sad2:.I also worry desperatley about my Nan+Grandad with all there problems :sad1:.x.

:thumbsup2 Totally agree - but at least we don't have to hear about the economy for a while :lmao:

Its sad but true!

In all fairness flu kills many people, this is yet another virulent strain. The sad fact is that if you do get it you will (unofficially) be expected to go to work and carry on. Even if you have to go in a hazmat suit! God I need a holiday! Lol.:lmao:

I also worry desperatley about my Nan+Grandad with all there problems :sad1:.x.

I heard older people were least at risk as there was another similar flu epidemic when they were young so they should have a good immunity.

Also remember for most people normal flu is worse.

It is worrying.
As someone who is on Tamiflu already I too am worried, its worrying as you hear such contradicting advice, information you don't know if your getting the whole truth.
Sorry to hear about another death from this flu :( it's not nice to hear..regardless of underlying health issues or not.

I agree that the media is causing undue panic in light of this case, people do die from winter flu every year and sadly swine flu will cause these deaths too. For most it is very mild and over and done within a week.

We are a little worried in my house as my DH has come into contact with it and is in one of the serious high risk groups. A colleague of his came to work feeling unwell knowing full well that is son was suffering with Swine Flu.
My DH spent all of last sunday with his Mum who is recovering from breast cancer and therefore is immune suppressed, he feels awful that he may have been incubating it at the time, and had he known, he would have stayed away.

We're realistic people and know we're going to get it at some stage, I was at Wembley Staduim last sunday with 90,000 people, I would say a good five percent were probably incubating it!

To be honest, I would prefer if my family got it now rather than in the winter, when it will only get worse and probably mutate into a different strain.
The hospitals will be busier too, likely to be full with elderly people suffering. Not sure if anybody remembers the flu of 1999/2000? We had a particularly bad Flu winter in Europe and many elderly died. My Grandma died in Jan 2000 totally unrelated to Flu but couldn't get a hospital bed.

:hug: To all of those that are poorly with it at the mo.....

Its natural to feel that way:hug: Just remember the drug is stockpiled, so if a mass need of medicating people there is enough:thumbsup2 I work for the ambulance service & as far as i'm aware the station I was at only took one confirmed case into hospital & we cover a vast area. TBH though we shouldn't being taking them to hospital unless they are seriously ill as that will only make the spread worse. We haven't heard anything about vaccinated. I would like to think that if it were to get worse we would be but then again knowing the way things work we will be one of the last.
