Hi:

Do you have to make a prior reservation to swim with the Sharks at Shark Reef in Typhoon Lagoon, or can you just make arrangements when you get to the water park?

Thanks for your help,

BarbaraK

It's an attraction you get in line for. The line can be very long, and the swim itself is just about the length of a large pool; if you want to do it, go either early or late. It often clears out after a storm. My DS, who at age 8 was enchanted, went 7 or 8 times in a row.

He came up at the end and said, "Mom! I had a spiritual experience. I can hear the fish!"

When you are done with your swim, if you want to go through right away, there is a "short cut". You can re-enter the line right from where you get out rather than go back to the very beginning.

Do it first thing not only before it is crowded but before the sediment gets stirred up. Really beautiful early in the day and you can get good photos with the disposable water cameras.

There is another swim you can take that will last longer, but it does cost. Here's the info from Deb's site.

For those who want to spend a little more time "swimming with the fishes," Shark Reef now offers a longer program called the S.A.S. Adventure. It's a chance to learn Surface Air Snorkeling, involves using a "pony" tank and a small regulator as in SCUBA diving, as well as a buoyancy vest. There is an instructional overview and then you may spend a half-hour snorkeling. The fee is $20 per half-hour for the first person; $15 for the second person. Participants must be at least 5 years old. To sign up for the S.A.S. Adventure, and for more information, visit the kiosk near the entrance of Shark Reef.

Personally the free snorkling has always been perfect for us.

The shark reef was one of our favorite experiences last year!! We still talk about it. Amazing! We got there pretty early and did it first thing. The lines can be long; be careful when you swim across the 'lagoon' we all got kicked and elbowed by other people swimming with us. :rolleyes1

They now require everyone swimming with the sharks to go through a short orientation before you get into the water. They demonstrate the use of the snorkle and talk about the entire process. You can't get in without listening to the talk, even if you just got out.

Thanks for taking the time to answer my question about swimming with sharks. Our whole family will be at WDW in October and there will be five children looking forward to their trip to Typhoon Lagoon.

Thanks again,
BarbaraK
