Swimming on the Alaskan Wonder Cruises

I've look around and read the big Alaska threads, but haven't found the answer (sorry if I missed an obvious thread on this) ...

... what's the situation with swimming on the summer Alaska cruises on the Wonder? Is it way to cold so no one swims? Are the pools even filled and available for kids to play in? Do a few brave/silly people swim? Or, is it not that cold and the pools are packed?

Trying to figure out if we both packing swimsuits for a July cruise or not.

I believe the pools are heated. Spend one minute with Google and you can find historic daily average temperatures, as well as extremes. My days in Alaska the highs average in the low 60s with records in the low 80s. Kids will be in the pool, and I probably will join my son.

The pools are heated. When you are in them, all is good. When you get out --- BRRRRRRR! And that is why DCL has blankets on every pool lounger. You will want sweats, robe, blanket, something to put in or around you the minute you get out. Same goes for the jacuzzis.

My experience is based on late May weather.

We also were on a late May cruise last year. The kids went swimming about 4 times. The pools were heated to around 90 degrees I believe. I have a great picture of my kids in the mickey pool "hot tub" area -- kids in swim suits (pool steaming), a crew member/lifeguard behind them in a heavy parka, snow capped mountains behind. The pools were not crowded at all, but that was May so I'm thinking it would be more crowded in July. As someone else said, it's not the swimming part that you worry about, it's the getting out!

Oh, and I'm a FL girl, so I did NOT swim!

It was the same way on the 7/26/11 cruise. The kids got in the pool while the adults sat around on loungers wearing coats. We were right at the edge of the pool when the kids got out with the towels & blankets -- but it didn't stop them.

we were on the last cruise out of vancouver last year and the only day my kids went in the pool was the embarkation day. they had a blast! on other days we saw kids in the pool, but i was worried they would catch a cold when they got out and didnt want to ruin the rest of the cruise so i kept my kids out.

We weren't on Disney for our Alaska cruise, but my DD9 and nephew went swimming everyday on our NCL cruise - including Glacier Bay last summer in July. I had on sweats, hoodie, gloves and a hat. they thought it was "cool". I would definitely take one.

We went swimming every day on our Aug 16 cruise last year. The pool was heated, and while there were a few other folks swimming while we left Vancouver, later on in the week, we were often the only ones. Might have been the rain though!

I am really glad to hear it. We cruise Sept 2-9th next year and DD is thrilled to know that swimming is a big GO

I find it so funny how many otherwise rational people become terrified of getting wet in a swimming pool when it starts raining! At least those of us who understand it doesn't rain poison benefit from empty pools!

You are so right. This is even the case at WDW. The only thing to worry about is if there is lightening..... I am not sure though if I will be swimming on our cruise or not. I will bring my suit though and might try it just because. I know when we did Alaska two years ago our ship had an indoor pool so I did go.

We were on the Aug 30th sailing. The kids hit the pool a couple of times. DH & I loved the hot tub time, though. We purposefully chose late dining so we'd have more time after excursions, and definitely enjoyed warming up or winding down in the hot tub for a while before getting ready for dinner.
