Swimming in November

Haha it definitely is wear you live and what you're used to.... I'm definitely the kind of person who gets cold very easily, but I don't think I'd be wearing thick parkas at those temps! One of my coworkers recently visited her boyfriend in Australia and she said that when it rains, people just don't go out! No school, no work! Crazy to me here in Raincouver!! :lmao:

Haha? Your kidding? That's too funny. I can't imagine that. We suck it up and jump in our canoes or arks depending on the time of year. :rotfl: If we had to call in sick for a rain day we would all be I employed.

You cant go wrong with a hot tub to relax those muscles after a long day of walking! :goodvibes

It also matters on the temp. Doesn't anybody remember November 2008? We had scorching temps in the high 90's and that's when all the fires started. November can be iffy around here, espeically in the first couple of weeks of the month.

So is it out of the question in December? We are planning on going to DLR the week of actual Christmas and really want to check out the DLH pool area. We were at WDW last year (2011) for Christmas, and were swimming at 10:30 pm on Christmas Eve, and were in shorts, roasting in the 85 degree sun watching the parade on Christmas Day (listening to Christmas carols....crazy!) :santa:

Again, it all depends. December 2011 was hot and dry. December 2010 was cold and rainy. November and December are hard months to predict here. What I do like about those months, it always cools down at night. January and February are more consistent in regards to temps.

Not only does it depend on where you are from but also on the weather changes. We were at GCH almost those exact dates in 2009. We were able to swim one day but it was cool and another day used the hot tubs - the rest of the time it was way too cold. The weather shifted quite a bit in the few days we were there.
In April 2010 we froze - it rained and was overcast the entire 4 days we were there. We had planned to use the pools a lot that trip but never got in them. So it's really hard to predict!
We will be there in late October this year...here's hoping for some warm weather!

What about Californians staying inside when it rains? We have 9 months of rain where I live. If we all stayed in nothing would get done. ;) No, I don't like it but you deal with it. The temp. thing makes sense since the body adjusts to where you live. But the rain thing is just a mental block.
Ummm, I've never heard that before. What Californians don't go out in the rain? That would be ridiculous. Lol

Why go out in the rain when it will be sunny tomorrow? :lmao:

What if you need something today? :confused3

To answer the question, I would swim in November, but I love swimming, even in the cold. Used to swim at Ocean Beach regularly when I lived in SF.

I think what the PPs meant and IMO is absolutely correct is that Southern Californians have discretion when they visit or do not visit DLR. If it looks like rain or is raining, they just don't go and plan to visit at a later date. This makes the DLR crowds much more sensitive to rain because when it does rain most day trippers stay away.

Not that you were talking about WDW but many around here do. And WDW is different since most everyone is not a local and their dates are fixed. So they have to just deal with rain.

Further, Florida rain tends to warm especially March-October. Southern California - when it does rain - tends to be Nov-Mar is almost always associated with cold. And often blustery cold at that. At blustery colds by SoCal definitions.

And finally, since it rains so much more in Florida - and because it is so hot and humid at times - the resorts are built for that. Thay means lots more inside restaurants and lots more inside queues. DLR has less space and less need to protect guests from weather and so there are lots more outside dining and outside queues. So when it does rain at DLR guests are more exposed.

Thus visiting DLR in the rain is not the same as visiting WDW in the rain. And DLR crowds dip more when it is raining than WDW crowds.

I was speaking more about recreational activities, which definitely see an impact from the rain. In Southern California and Central California (where I live), rain is very scarce. If it is raining, people will delay or postpone recreational activities in favor of better weather. All you have to do is look for rainy day reports from DL to see what I am talking about. The place looks deserted!

Visit a local shopping mall or restaurant in my town when it is raining and you will have the place to yourself. Mainly because everything is built for good weather, outdoor malls, outdoor seating, no covered anything. The parks would be deserted as well and forget biking.

Obviously, if you have to go to work or you need something from the store, you go do it. But many people here delay fun stuff until the weather is better. Which, will probably be tomorrow. :)
