Will we be able to swim at our resort during the first week of January?

Are all the resort pools heated? Or just specific pools at each resort?

Thanks :)

Teresa

All of the WDW resort pools are heated.

It's not the temp. of the water you need to be concerned with, it's the air temp. as you get out of the water!

For most of our January/February stays, it was fine to swim. But this past January, when it went down to 28 degrees....well...you can imagine the pools weren't too crowded! But there were still people swimming anyway!

Swimming season for us is May through October - period, but I've seen people swim at hotels all times of year. I don't see the attraction but why not pack your suits anyway and see for yourself.

Blondie,
You must have been there the same time as us! We were staying at WL (perfect location for cold weather with the fireplaces and all), and could not believe it when we saw people swimming! To each his/her own I guess:)

We swam in Jan no problem, just got in the hottub to warm ourselves up before the long trek back to the room. We even made it to the water parks in the afternoons. But there are cold days too, just have to pick and choose your pool times based on the air temp and the sun.

The attraction for us northerners is that we haven't been in an outdoor pool since Labor Day! If you have kids, there is no keeping them out and -- if you can't beat 'em, join 'em.

We've been in Dec., Jan., and Feb. when it has been quite chilly, but we've truly enjoyed the heated pools. The weather changes from year to year, so bring your suits and jump in.

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.....................

We were in Disney in Jan and I sat by the pool in Sweatpants and sweatshirt with a towel over me while my DD swam!!!!!!! Mind you we are FLORIDIANS!! AND she still felt fine swimming~!
I agree with Ducklite!! BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Last year we swam at the AKL pool in January and it was just fine to us. As Blondie said, it's the air temperature, rather than the water temperature that you have to worry about. Like Katrina1122 we just heated ourselves up in the hot tub before heading (at a brisk pace) back to our room.

To be fair, though, I should say that we're from Canada and we had that big old pool all to ourselves. :D The lifeguards were actually wearing ski jackets. I'm sure they thought we were strange and we thought they were pretty strange, too, LOL. To us it was maybe sweatshirt weather, but ski jackets? Disney must be used to their odd northern guests if they've provided the lifeguards with ski jackets.

As long as the temps are above 50 degrees I'm sure my boys will be swimming! After all, in all probability we'll be coming from temps at or below freezing, so the 50's would feel warm to us! :D

It would need to be closer to 65 for me to get in, though. ;)

We actually use the ski jackets year round for rain closing days. Once it rains the temp will drop a bit. The ski jackets provide us warmth and are water proof so they keep us dry so that we don't get sick!

We were there this past Jan when there was such a cold spell we had hats and mittens on...that being said DD & DH swam, along with some other crazy folks. Me..way too cold. I also don't think the pools are heated enough!! I grew up down south though so my tolerance is much less than most Northerns...But seriously not heated to my liking...I also think it depends on the temp outside...

Prince of Thieves - Sorry if I offended you in any way. I was just trying to make a point that temperature (like many things) is all relative. You guys do a great job!

Thanks everyone for all the responses! I think if it gets above 60 I'll swim. If not, then DH can take the girls swimming and I'll sit on the side watching ;).

Thanks!

Teresa

CindyAnn- In no way shape or form did you offend me when you made that comment.. I for one get cold easily as it is and will commonly wear on of the fleece lifeguard jackets in the middle of the summer after it rains!!! I guess I'm so used to the heat down here that i will notice the slightest change in temp.
