We are going Dec. 21 - 28 and I'm looking to move from Poly to a 1 BR tomorrow. There are several availabilities at the moment and each has its pros and cons. We loved AKL KV when we stayed there during spring break. Savanna View, 2 bathrooms, it was great... but it was further from parks.

I have not stayed at BWV or BC and I'm considering BC but not sure yet. Has anyone been able to swim generally during Christmas week. I live in South MS and know our weather can fluctuate greatly at this time but we don't normally swim. But if the pools are heated and the weather is warm during that week?????

I'm so torn. I'm bringing a friend and her daughter who has never visited. Poly is enough room for us, but I want the kitchen, however, I'd give up monorail. Too many decisions. LOL

Pools are heated, but not enough to where I'd be comfortable swimming if the temp was really cold. Kids usually tolerate this much better than adults.
It could be 30F or it could be 80F. If it's cold enough, they won't even open the pools.

YMMV, but we have had some of the best weather during that week on the few times we have gone, so, if you like to swim, it's definitely a possibility that it will be warm enough.

I would HIGHLY recommend staying at a resort that is going to give you the easiest access to the parks you will be visiting the most. I, personally, would not stay at AKV-Kidani that week. Transportation via any means other than foot is exceptionally difficult - very crowded and lots of traffic. We always stay in the EP area when we go over Christmas week. Walking to two parks and countless dining options makes things much more convenient. If you are visiting MK the most, I would stick with Poly.

We went to WDW the week between Christmas and New Years for nearly 20 years. The pools are heated, but they will close them down when the temperatures get into the 50's. We've been there when the pools have been closed. We've also been there when the lifeguards were bundled up and my daughter was the only one in the pool, lol. Then again, we're from Wisconsin so the lower 60's were warm for us!

I would recommend Beach Club if you think you might want to swim. The quiet pool near the villas is very nice and Stormalong Bay is the best pool on property. the location of the BC also can't be beat for walking to Epcot and DHS. If you can't get the BC, then my next choice would be BWV. It's a little easier to keep an eye on kids than SAB.

I'm leaning heavily to BC but I'll have to waitlist one of my days, but it's the last day instead of one in the middle, so it may not be too awful. I really love Poly but I just wish they had 1 BR. I chose AKL KV b/c my elderly mother was with us last trip. We were taking it slow and I was looking more to spend time in the room and she loves animals and really enjoyed sitting on the balcony watching the animals. However, as much as my friend and her daughter will love the savanna room, I think being able to access the parks will be a better option.

depends on your tolerance to cold. some days are warmer then other...... some nights are cooler. yes the pools are heated....but it still goes to your own tolerance for being cold.

We swam 12-12 and 12-13 this year at poly. upper 60's during the day. low 60's at night. you could tell the pool was heated, but it needed 5 more degrees. We spent most of the time in the hot tub.

We’ve stayed at the BC, YC, and Poly during this timeframe. We have been there when the big pool was closed, but the little pools are still open (and heated). My kids have had no issue swimming and we are from GA. I’ve been all bundled up watching them and you see the steam coming off the water. We’ve also been when the weather is warm and sunny and we all loved being outside swimming. I agree, our sanity saver during the really busy time is staying near the parks you will be at the most. This makes the boardwalk area our favorite place to be.

We also spent several years at the Swan to save some $.

We went in mid-December once and it actually rained and stormed a lot, lol. I was surprised. We had one day where it was in the mid-70s and we went swimming. The pool (at POFQ) was nicely heated and the sun was out so we enjoyed it. But some days were just too cool for us.

Entirely depends on the year. Some years it's been in the 80s during that week, at least mid-afternoon, and great for swimming. Some years it tops out around 60 and kids want to swim anyway while the adults say "no thanks, I'm good out here." And some years even kids would think it's too cold for a dip! IME families from colder climates (as mine is) are more likely to think December weather is "swimmable", while people from further south think it's not warm enough.

The question regarding the desirability to swim in December comes down to your expectations of warm and the weather. So leave it in our plans as an option and not the highlight of the day. The weather is something you need to consider every morning, make plans with options of what you can consider to do. With that said, we have enjoyed swimming on Christmas Day.
