Swimming at another resort

When did they get tough on pool hoppers? I have never seen one ejected from the Polynesian and there were plenty of them there last 4th of July when we were there. Many were "locals" or from offsite resorts. They would park there, go to MK for the day, cool off in the pool and leave. Not only could we find a chair half the time, but we couldn't find a parking space. We are long time Polynesian fans, but I think that the internet and unofficial guides around has encouraged abuses of the system. We won't stay there again until things change, expecially since I could easily stay offsite and still get all of the ammenities there for free.

Leighe, we saw plenty of people being brought into the concierge lounge by their friends that were staying concierge. It was almost every morning for breakfast and evening appetizers. They were on the 3rd floor and the just walked up the stairs and were let in. (Concierge was in Tahiti that trip) :( :( :earseek:

I've seen 4 different groups or families ejected from the Poly pool in the last 2 years. Some weren't even a guest of another resort! They were just day visitors to the MK and decided to pop on over for a swim. Another family was from the WL and some from the All Stars. I am not the pool police but if someone makes it known to me that they aren't supposed to be there you better believe I will be informing the lifeguard. What is so strange about these pool hoppers is that they tend to announce to anyone within earshot that they are not staying at that resort. It is like they are proud to be freeloading but it isn't going to last for them if I can help it! :D

The rules should be enforced. If the resorts would enforce the rules for a few months, the number of those attempting to pool hop would be reduced. Folks prone to try something like that might be deterred if they knew they would be approached for resort ID.

Personally, if I was soooo concerned with swimming at a really nice pool, I would be on a vacation somewhere else. I go to WDW for the parks/attractions, not to spend vast amounts of time at the pool. We do go for a swim a few times while we are there, but would never break rules to swim at a nice pool. Besides it would be a big hassle to load up "pool stuff" and carry it to another resort

Except, renters are not technically entitled to DVC member benefits. Only the use of the points. Non-cash guests are another thing.

Question for Deb&Bill or any other DVC member that would know. DH and I usually rent points from a member, our key cards have our names on them and they say "DVC Member". So how would a lifeguard know that you were staying on your own points or renting someone elses? We have never pool hopped when renting points, just curious if you knew.

Thanks,

If you are staying on points and your ID says DVC member then, Yes you are entitled to the priviliges that a member has. Do know that pool hopping is restricted to DVC members at certain times of the year and hopping to SAB and AKL pool is not allowed for DVC members.

I agree with many others that Disney is the one to blame here. As stated if they would heavily enforce the rule, then it would get shared by Internet forums and guidebooks that Pool Hopping is over at Disney and you won't get in.

I also agree with you get what you pay for. We are not wealthy by any means. We save long and hard to afford deluxe resorts. and the amenities that comes with a deluxe resort. It is an extended family vacation and we do really enjoy the pools as none of my family has pools at home. It's our time to get together after a day in the park and enjoy some family time. While I am not going to let it ruin my vacation completely, I will say it does put a damper on it to overhear others brag about being there and not staying there. And as someone else pointed out, many do seem to like to share this information with others around them.

It also does bother me that many have learned to work the system by reading the guidebooks and picking up pointers from the Internet.

Personally I wish Internet forum leaders would establish a policy that the Rule Is: No pool hopping allowed unless you are entitled to such priviliges through membership of DVC and close all threads that give information about how someone was allowed to pool hop.

Dreamflight - I just had to say that you always express yourself so eloquently! I love your outlook on life.
Thank you! :sunny: You made my day!

I too, would never even "think" of loading up a car and driving to another resort to use the pool. We have never done this, and never will. As I stated earlier, we are at WDW for the sheer JOY and FUN we derive from the parks, and sharing family time together. ::yes:: We rarely use the pools, and only use the water parks our PAP's provide once/twice per visit.

I feel for the folks whom visit the resorts and have to fight for a chair/chaise and a spot in the water with other non-paying, trespassing visitors. It shocks me to read about guests also trespassing in the CL lounge area.

Enjoy the week, and your next trip to the MAGIC!

Thanks again, for your kind words. :goodvibes:

Just here to second that WL pool rarely gets checked. We're dvc and get so irritated that we can never find a spot at the main pool because its always so packed. I've never seen them check ID's even when we've seen a family of 10 ride their bikes over form FW and park next to 10 bikes already there. I typically don't get irritated until the overflow starts to hit the quiet pool - that's when I do get vocal. I'm not there to ruin anyone else vacation, but I'm certainly not paying money to have mine intruded upon! Let me say too that we only go during off season so its not a case they we should expect things to be busy.

So beware all you would be pool hoppers - I do tattle tale! If I hear you I will turn you in and I'll wave with a smile as you leave the pool area! :wave2:
