So, are kids allowed to wear water wings in resort pools? I know the YMCA does not allow inflatables so I thought I'd ask. DD is a pretty decent swimmer (for an almost 5 yr old) but she hasn't swam since summer and although we're going in June, its early in her vacation and she wouldn't have taken this years swimming lessons before our trip to refresh herself.

She'll probably start the week with the wings and get more confident and take them off by end of week. I'm just not going to pack them if she can't wear them. I do plan to be in the water with her and watch her at all times. THANKS!!!

My DS wore water wings on two of our trips. He didn't need them this last trip. We stayed at FW cabins the first time and POR the second time. The lifeguards didn't say anything about it!

They are allowed at Pop Century.

Last month, I saw kids with water wings & the blow up innertubes in the pool.

Beach balls too.

I've seen people using inflatables for their kids at the WDW resorts without any comment from the lifeguard staff so you shouldn't have any problems. Just so you know, they do have lifevests you can get for free - I think you just have to give them your resort key which you get back when your done with it. Just thought I would mention it. hth.

Water wings are OK, but why not put her in swim lessons earier? My DD was on the Swim Team when she was 5 years old.

Our rec center does not start lessons until summer. We go to FL her 3rd week of vacation and the 2nd week of the pool being open so there's not time :( The Y is just too $$. DD really wants to swim! If after this summer, taking 2 sessions of lesson & she is still into it, I'll probably find a year round center. Our problem is $, being a single mom I can only afford 1 activity at a time. Right now she's on a Gymnastics kick, we'll see how things happen in the Fall. She says that when she grows up she wants to be a "swimmer between the lines in the olympics" LOL she's so cute. She swam a bit in Dec when we were in FL and did okay, so I think after 2 days in the pool in June she'll be up to speed.

It sounds like she'll fit right in on a swim team :). You should still check at the YMCA about swimming. I know our Y in Wisconsin has special assistance programs for families under the "Strong Kids Campaign". Two of the kids on my DD's swim team had their entire costs paid for by the Y. I paid about $300 between paying the Y for the swim team practices, a team suit and swim meets. It's not cheap! Swim team is over for the season (our Regionals are next week), but swim lessons are year round.

If you can't fit in swimming it sounds like she'll still have a blast with her swimmies :).

Small flotation devices are allowed, but we've seen the lifegurads tell people that inflatable rafts were not.

We always call our WDW trips the 'World's most expensive swimming lessons', as both DDs learned to swim in the pools there. :rotfl:

As a former lifeguard/swimmer, water wings were a nightmare. Ive pulled several kids out due to them deflating. The other thing, it interfers with them using their arms properly. I swore I would never use anything with my son. However, he didnt want me holding on to him in the pool. I found a vest type thing that has foam pads in the front and back (its not those swimsuit type things). As your child gets more comfortable in the water, you remove the pads. My son was swimming without any device before he turned 2 (of course he was never more than an arms length away from me). You can find the vest at Toys R Us, Target, Walmart....his was yellow with side straps.

DDs have this vest. I was hoping we could use them at the resort pools. I feel much more comfortable with them in the water. I had the whole deflating water wing fear!!

my niece used her floaties at pop until i told her to use life vest instead. at pop the life vests were in boxes by pools and we never showed anybody anything to use it. i jave also used my beach ball in pool and have seen/played with pop provided beach balls.

We forgot DD last last & bought them in the Gift Shop at WL. They were the best deal on property $2.
