SWGE effect on the rest of the park

So i don't see a thread for this yet, i'd love to hear peoples opinions on what effect you thing SWGE will have on the rest of Disneyland and DCA?

I'll be making my (almost) annual trip for Halloween time and as a non star wars fan (don't shoot me!) I probably won't step a foot SWGE until at least 2 years from now! But i am a bit scared about the potential number of guests in the parks, having ignored most of the hype and news about SWGE i'm just not sure how bad realistically to expect it to be!

It’s going to be busy. And the AP split blackout dates could have an effect on the number of people in DCA.

It’ll be interesting to see how the reservation period goes. It’ll be crowded because those reservations will be maxed out every day, I bet. But a lot of those people will be spending the majority of time in SWGE, not necessarily prioritizing Peter Pan or RSR or whatever else.

I’m curious about total park capacity. I don’t know much about it, but I read somewhere that total capacity would actually not be increased when SWGE opens.

I guess we’ll have to see what happens when it opens, then see what happens when the reservation period is over, and then see what happens once RotR opens as well. And then of course factor in AP blackouts ending later in the summer.

Who knows?!

for frequent visitors to Disneyland we use DCA as a escape destination after morning crowding begins around 11:00 to 12:30, we leave the park knowing that Disneyland is crowded and time to eat DCA food choices and take in minor attractions like animation academy, GRR and use Maxpass.

So what is going to happen to brand new visitors who know of SWGE but did not do their homework, they are going to hang around Disneyland discovering what they did wrong, so that 11:00 crowding turns into 9:30 crowding in Disneyland, causing veteran visitors to head over to DCA even earlier, bumping into folks who started the day in DCA, increasing the noon time crowding of DCA x2 then what is the norm now at 1:00

This creates the egress that the New York professor of theme parks said was going to be the significant problem that Disney has never addressed in any other grand opening , worse egress in SWGE, not so bad egress outside of SWGE.

veteran visitors return to lodging to rest and prepare for the night, only to return and bump into the folks who are still trying to figure out how to enter SWGE, making for some of the worse night time visits.

the number of folks posting on their arrival days on the June, July and August threads, is just a tip of the iceberg of folks visiting those months, if veteran visitors are willing to enter the chaos, imagine the brand new folks visiting those months with no understanding what they are encountering.

for the first time there may very well be uniformed security and established waiting lines outside of city hall.

yep....hype and news can be ignored as along as you have an understanding of how infrastructure for crowding at Disneyland works....take in Lincoln, take in a show, ride main street, ride the train....advice that we all give to folks on how to rest, avoid lines and stay out of the sun....on a normal summer day. I lived on the 45th parallel in 2017 in Oregon and all kinds of government news was broadcast for weeks in advance, professionals telling us on how to prepare for the chaos of the most spectacular event on earth. The chaos didn't happen in Western Oregon, it was ado about nothing.....why? because no one had ever seen a solar eclipse and didn't realize how MAGNIFICENT event that August morning created..... but Star Wars........ 5 decades in the making....everyone on earth has seen Star Wars!!

LOL! I don't care about Star Wars either. I do want to see SWGE just to see what all the commotion is about. I think we are all expecting it to be busy. But we won't truly know the effects of SWGE opening, the reservation system, and the split AP blockouts until the time comes. After thinking about it and reading some of the posts, I kind of want to get a reservation, but what scares me the most is that I live 30 minutes away (without traffic), and never stay onsite or at a nearby hotel. I'm worried about getting into Anaheim and the parking situation. If I have to, I'm ok with skipping out on going to the parks for a month or so in order to read up on the crowd patterns. I'm hoping that some of the other areas of the park will get some relief from the crowds, but other people like me who don't care about Star Wars might have the same idea.

I'm very glad i'm not visiting right after SWGE opens and have a few months to find out what the crowds are doing! I'd love to think the rest of the would get some relief and all it would take is avoiding big thunder trail but i just can't see it being that way, too many uninformed guests will probably bail out of getting into star wars land and spill into the rest of the park.

As a local I’m very curious to see how it effects crowds. Specifically in June when all but signature ap’s are allowed only in DCA. The DLR is still going to be populated by 60%+ ap’s even after SW:GE opens. Will people come just to get into DCA? I’m not sure if I would. I think of the entire DLR as one huge park honestly. I’m excited for Star Wars but I’m really excited to see how it effects the resort as a whole. Not too long till we find out

+1 to not caring about star wars. I have the feeling it's all going to be very super terrible, and 75% of the people there won't have done homework and will be incredibly frustrated they spent $xxx to wait for star wars for 6 hours (or not get a reservation at all, because they didn't know they needed one) which will lead to really grumpy people everywhere.

Remember that, at least as of now, the reservation system is only in place for three weeks. Not all summer.

And as for people who don’t do their homework and get frustrated at spending so much money… well, you can find plenty of those people in the parks as it is.

So I’d reserve judgment until we can see exactly what we are dealing with.

Don’t forget it is opening in phases and as I’m not sure when you are planning your visit, but it may very well be right around the phase 2 opening if it is only a few months after the initial opening date. We just don’t know when phase 2 is expected yet.

This is true, it could be entirely possible based on some rumors i've heard i'll be there for phase 2 RotR open day or very close to it, which is a bit scary to me just thinking about getting into the park in the morning! Still glad phase 1 will happen before i get there to give me some idea of what to expect!

Has it been confirmed that the Reservation System will only be in place for the first 3 weeks and that after that SWL will be completely open to anyone that wants to enter?

When I spoke to the DL Reservation Specialist and asked her the same thing last week, she indicated that she did not receive any information on this ( as of yet ) and cannot confirm what will happen beyond the first 3 weeks.

To visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland Park between May 31, 2019 and June 23, 2019, Guests will need valid theme park admission and will be required to make a no-cost reservation, subject to availability, to access the land. Guests staying at 1 of the 3 Disneyland Resort hotels during these dates will receive a designated reservation to access Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge during their visit (one reservation per registered Guest); valid theme park admission is required.

Beginning June 24, 2019, a separate reservation for the land will no longer be required. Information on how to make a reservation and details about the reservations will be available at a later date.

That is right from the Disneyland Galaxy's Edge page. Obviously, they can change it. But it explicitly says that starting June 24, a reservation is no longer needed. It does not leave it open to any other interpretation.

For now, my current plan is go to DL in Mid-June and visit SWL through Reservations given as part of a Paradise Pier Vacation Package that I booked a few months back. If anything, I am planning to stay at SWL for that day as long as I can once I get the reservation Notice. My concern is that both DL and DCA will be overly crowded during the first 3 weeks. I'm fully expecting that there will be significant overflow from those that planned to go to SWL but wasn't aware that it will be limited to those with Reservations.

Thanks for the confirmation.

I honestly don't think there will be that many people who are there explicitly to visit SW:GE but that didn't realize they needed a reservation. First, again, this is only 3 weeks. Second, if you are the type of person planning a trip solely around the opening of SW:GE then you are either on DL related message boards or at least visiting the DL website where it could not be more clear that a reservation is required for the first 3 weeks. I'm not saying it won't be busy, but I really don't think there's going to be thousands of people in an angry mob who are there explicitly to visit SW:GE that can't get in because they didn't know they needed a reservation.
