Thursday 28th August 2008 - Ambers Birthday
We set the alarm for 7:00 and woke DD up with her presents we had bought from home. She then rang Nanny and Grandad back home and we all got ready and went down for breakfast.
I nipped off to see if the concierge had Birthday Badges for my DD but they dont do that sort of thing here which was disappointing. However she gave me a voucher to get a balloon of her choice from the Gift Shop which I thought was very kind!
As we finished breakfast and made our way out we noticed that Pluto was in the lobby so we queued to have DDs photo taken. DD told him that it was her birthday and he made a big fuss which was lovely.
We made it out of the hotel about 8:45 and made our way across to the Disneyland Park. DD stopped to take some photos! She is quite the David Bailey!!
We did the usual Fantasyland rides and then about 9:30 we went over to the Disney Studios so we could get in early and get in the Crushs Coaster queue. What a mad dash that was!!! We managed to get in the queue about 9:35 and when it opened at 10am I suppose we had about a 25 minute wait until we got on the ride which we didnt think was bad. I wasnt quite sure what to expect with this ride. Me and DD sat facing forward and DH sat behind. I loved it to start with and then when you get to the bit where its like being flushed down the toilet I wasnt so sure!!! DD was shouting that she felt sick and crying. I couldnt speak or open my eyes and then it was over!! DD cried as she got off I think more out of shock than anything else. In the adverts for the ride its all lovely and blue when you are in the Ocean but it reality it was pitch black! I enjoyed it more when I started talking about it with DH and we both agreed that we hope Orlando gets one soon!
After this we made our way over to the Stunt Show. Weve seen this a couple of times in Orlando but were both impressed with how they dealt with commentating in several languages. The show never ceases to amaze me!!!
When it finished DH got a fastpass for the Rock N Roller Coaster and we went and had an early lunch in Backlot Express. We each had Croque Monsioirs which were OK but the service was very slow here and we were pleased we hadnt come in when they were busy!!
DH then went on the Rock N Roller Coaster and DD and I watched the High School Musical parade which we loved. We are both HSM fanatics!!!
After this we went back over to the Disneyland Park, looking in some shops on the way.
We had a Birthday Tea Party Reservation at the Plaza Gardens for 3:30pm so we went straight over there.
We were seated on time and showed the buffet which was very nice. We knew it was only sweet offerings (there are a few savoury bits) but it was all very nicely set out. The Characters made their way round and as they came over to our table and were with DD the table next to us, with about 6 screaming kids on, all came over and mobbed Eeyore! DH had to get quite irate in the end and state that if everyone stayed at their table everybody will get a turn but right now it was our DDs turn!!! Its very funny though as he didnt realise he had left our DVD recorder on and although when we watched it back you can only see his leg and the floor you can hear him saying Can we have some room here please, and cant people show some manners! My parents found this very amusing when we showed them!!!
Anyway, after he had said, we didnt have any bother any more we got the impression that Eeyore was very grateful! We saw Eeyore, Tigger, Pluto and Goofy. The birthday cakes then came out and a little singing Mickey which DD was really pleased with and then even more characters.
We saw Friar Tuck and Gideon, the cat from Pinnochio.
We left about 4:30 and agreed this was a lovely Tea Party with loads of Character interaction. DD was very happy.
We left the park, looking and purchasing in MORE shops on the way and hired a surrey bike from the Disney Village. This was really good fun and we biked all along the lake stopping to take photos as we went.
We returned the bike after 20 minutes and DD went on the motorised Quad Bikes which were outside the Hotel New York. She did 2 laps and then crashed into the side which for some reason upset her so she got off. We were leaving when the attendant came over and gave us all our money back. I initially refused as she had been round twice and it was her choice she came off but he insisted and I thought this was a really nice gesture.
We made our way back to the hotel to get ready for our dinner at Café Mickey. We stopped in the Gift Shop and DD got her Winnie the Pooh Balloon. We had a look at our photos taken with Pluto earlier but to be honest they werent any different to the ones I had taken on our camera.
DD wore her Princess Jasmine costume and we had a stroll back over to the Village where she went on the Carousel outside Café Mickey. We arrived at Café Mickey for our 8pm reservation and were seated almost immediately. I gave our server the Birthday Cake voucher I had pre-purchased and his face lit up and he said I do it big behind DDs back!
I ordered the Goats cheese salad to start, DH had the tomato soup. For main I ordered Lasagne and salad and DH had a steak. DD had the set menu and had Spaghetti Bolognese. To be honest you dont really go to these things for the quality of the food. The food was perfectly adequate but the character interaction was amazing! We saw Tigger (who went mad when we said it was DDs birthday and he started bouncing around the room with her!), Mickey Mouse, the Sheriff of Nottingham, Goofy, Mr Smee, Gideon and Friar Tuck. They all absolutely adored DD. She told each one of them they were her favourite! Goofy wouldnt leave her alone it was lovely.
After our meal we decided we didnt want dessert as we knew the cake was coming and we had eaten a lot of sweet things at the tea party. All of a sudden really loud music came on and all the characters in there surrounded my DD. Our server lifted her onto the chair and the cake got brought out. She initially went into shock and I thought she was going to cry bless her but then she loved it. Everybody in the restaurant was clapping and cheering and it really bought a tear to your eye! It was wonderful! When she blew the candles out everyone cheered and all the characters hugged her. All the waiters then got up on the banquet seats and danced and sung to Aretha Franklin there was a wonderful atmosphere in there. We asked for our bill and left our server a big tip as he had truly made her birthday one she will never forget!
As we left the table the manager came rushing up and said we could not leave as Goofy was insisting he saw our DD one more time! He said he was with a family at the moment but would be over any minute. Sure enough over he came and couldnt stop hugging her. He sat her on his knee and cradled her like a baby it was lovely. Mickey then came back over for more cuddles and DD whispered in his ear that he is truly the best one as he is the King!
We all left on an absolute high! DD couldnt wait to ring Nanny and Grandad when she got back to the hotel room to tell them all about it! They of course were really disappointed they had missed it all and I agreed to come back and visit with Mum in January.
We all slept well that night!
