My daughter will be turning 16 on March 12th. She is a having a sleepover in a hotel near dc. They are going to get dressed up and go eat at the Cheesecake factory and are planning to go to the mall but that may change.. Teens are always changing their minds. Anyways She will be inviting 3 people. Her best friend who is also turning 16 on the same day as my daughter (crazy I know) and 2 other friends. I was wondering what I should do for favors? Should I just give them a small gift card to the mall that they might be going to but you tend to get the party favors at the end of the party as a thank you for coming. Also do you do party favors for sweet 16..

Second part of my dilemma is I want to get my daughter something special for a gift but don't know what.. It can't be too much as my hubby and I are getting her a TV for a bedroom, her 7yr sis is getting her a VB all in one wristlet and her 2 yr sis is getting her a ring and necklace (not real from kohls)... So I just want a little something special for her..

Also, what do you get a BFF for their 16th birthday. By the way her bff is not having a party they cant afford it.... So I kinda want my dd's party to be special to her friend too..

Any ideas???

Do teenagers still like Tiffany? Their jewelry lasts forever and some of the signature pieces are reasonably priced. Get DD a necklace and BFF a bracelet or something cheaper than DD's gift, but still special.

For my DD sweet 16 last year she met her friends at a restaurant. We didn't do favors(she would have been mortified if I did) but we had dinner in a separate part and had the server bring the check to our table at the end of the meal. They enjoyed it! I bought her a special outfit to wear to dinner and got her a Barbie by Stila makeup kit since she was crazy about Barbie when she was little and now she's more grown up.

Sounds like you have a great celebration planned! Maybe your DD has an idea what her BFF would like.

Sounds like a magical night...
Maybe do cake for both the girl's birthdays??

I see no reason to do party favors but a small gift card, if it's in the budget ,would be very nice since you know the BFF does not have a lot of money to spend...

Maybe a gift card as a gift from you DD to the BFF given before the part would be nice too!

Thanks for all the suggestion. I think maybe I will take my daughter to Things Remembered to get her friend a little something plus a small gift card for the mall for her..

I also think I will nix the favor idea.. I mean they are getting to go the Cheesecake Factory and I just know it is going to cost me...

Agreed that you don't need favors.

Just wanted to say that's a great idea and I'm sure they'll have a wonderful time!

For my 16th my parents got me a necklace/ring/earrings set of my birthstone (Ruby). My mom actually got it during the Valentine's sales at Kay Jewelers, so she didn't spend a fortune. I would say that some piece of jewelry was the most common 16th birthday gift amongst everyone I knew.

I think what you have planned sounds fabulous. I also think it's really neat that your daughter and her best friend share a birthday! My daughter turns 16 at the end of March. We are having her party here at the house. I have ordered her a custom cake for her party, and we are not having party favors. I know your daughter will have a wonderful birthday!

and her 2 yr dd is getting her a ring and necklace (not real from kohls)... So I just want a little something special for her..

Am I reading this wrong, or does your 15 year old have a 2 yr old dd?

Anyway, I think the idea of the gift card for the mall would be great, but if it isn't in the budget the rest of the ideas sound like a whole lot of fun to. Maybe a Mani and or Pedi before the party would be a nice gift that wouldn't have to cost much more. Especially if the nail thing isn't something she does very often. The two of you could go for a mani together for a little mom/daughter the day before, or that morning.

Sorry my 15 yr old does not have a 2 yr old . I m fixing that typo. They are all mine.. all girls 15, 7, & 2

My DD turned 16 in January. My mom got her a very pretty silver locket from Things Remembered - wrote her name on the front & Sweet 16 on the back. She LOVES it. She did not like the heart ring I got her so we exchanged it for a shopping trip instead. She did like a keyring and some birthstone earrings we bought her.

For her party at the house, we did not do favors other than had a candy "bar" and they filled chinese take out boxes to celebrate the sweet 16. Your DD could make little tulle bundles of kisses w/a tag thanking her friends for celebrating her sweet 16 with her but otherwise, I don't think DD has gotten favors at any of her friends' parties either.

I thought about doing the candy bags, too. I thought that would be a great idea and just a small treat to take home. We ended up deciding not to do it just because her cake is so darn expensive, and the gift she is getting from me is a major budget breaker. You can go to the M&Ms website and get them customized and put in a container. That's what we did for my older DD's graduation party, and they were a major hit! For just a few girls, that wouldn't be terribly expensive.

Ok My daughter just told me that she doesnt want any favors that says her name on them because since her friend cannot have a birthday party that she wanted this to be hers too and ask if that was ok. Which is fine with me it will not cost me anymore than it is. Just that if I get a cake she wants her and her friends names on it which I wasn't planning on doing since they are doing Cheesecake Factory and I thought the slice of cheesecake would do for the cake.. now I dont know what to think about that..

They are really close and do everything together that they can. They are both on the JV cheer team at school and they have a few classes together.

Anyways I am sure everyone will be happy with whatever they get a night in a hotel and they get to go eat and whatever..

Thanks everyone
