Swapping points with another DVC member

Hello everyone. I just discovered the DIS board a few days ago, and have been pouring through the various threads. What a fantastic source of knowledge you all are! My head is about to explode , but I have learned so much. A few days ago, I thought I had a pretty good handle on most things Disney, but after a few days of reading through here I realize I still have a lot to learn. . .

I am a new DVC member (joined October 2010), taking our first trip home this December. I am also looking waaaay ahead, and am planning a trip to visit some family in California in **. I was hoping to book a **, but the more I am reading the more concerned I have become that it will be no small feat to secure a reservation at 7 months. So, my wheels started turning, and I searched the DIS boards for any information I could find about points transfers, so that I could take advantage of the 11-month booking priority at **. I was not able to find any previous threads that exactly addresses what I am wondering about. I apologize in advance if any of my questions are obvious or have already been discussed ad nauseum...

As I stated earlier, I want the points for **. My hope is that I can "swap" points with another DVC member; for the purposes of being "general," I will just say that I own at one of the DVC clubs in WDW that is currently in-demand . I would not want this to be a monetary transaction of any sort; my idea was for it to be strictly a point-for-point swap -- the other member transfers x points to me, and I transfer the same number of points to them. I know that each member is allowed only one transfer (in or out) during each UY, so my thought was that I would receive the transferred points in 2013, and then transfer out my 2014 points to the other member.

So my questions are:

(1) Is this theoretically even possible? In other words, are you allowed to transfer out points from two use-years ahead?

(2) Do you see any potential problems/difficulties with this scenario? Is my idea viable, and if not why not?

(3) Has anybody ever seen anything like this done before?

The main drawback that I can see is that whoever I am doing this swap with would not be able to use the points until 2014, and so the person would have to also be looking waaay ahead.

Yes, that may be done here on our DVC Rent/Trade Board. The biggest challenge is finding another member willing to give up their points in that fashion, but some have been able to trade DVC points as you are suggesting.

Thank you for the quick response! And good to know that this is possible to do.

When would I be able to do this? On the DVC member website, I see my use years as far ahead as 2014. Could I theoretically find someone now who was willing to make this swap, and effect the swaps today? Or are there certain dates/deadlines that must be adhered to?

If you could transfer your 2012 points to the member, and you get their 2013 points, it might be a better trade to offer.

You should read the sticky at the top of the rent/trade board to get an idea of the rules for posting there. Since you are looking a ways into the future you will have time to get the number of posts and the amount of time you must be a member of the boards before you can post to it. I believe you need to have at least 50 meaningful posts on the DIS boards in a six month period to be able to use the rent trand board. The posts can be in all areas not just DVC.

I thought of another way to go about this that may have more interest. That would be that they make a reservation for you at the 11th month mark and then you could make a reservation for them.

Unfortunately, I do not have any points in my 2012 Use Year; already borrowed into the current UY.

This is an idea that I may need to pursue... But ideally, I would prefer to have the points in my account so that I have control over the actual reservations.

Not on the DIS unless you were 30 days or less out.
