Swan Experts, Swan and New Years Eve?

Hi all! Any assistance I can get from those more experienced would be appreciated. I would love to go to the World for the New Year holiday in 05 but I need an affordable option for a family of five, youngest is 10. I did join Starwood preferred for the cash and points or points benefits but so far no luck getting either of these... I would like to stay at the Swan, one room, ($ ) so that we can bring in the New year at Disney. Since its a short trip the roll away bed works for us. I would be looking to check in on the 28th and check out on the 1st. Has anyone had any luck with discounts or good rates? I have an annual pass and AAA but I don't qualify as a government worker or teacher. What rate, or range should I be planning for? Any experiences or advice would help. I have read that Disney does not offer discounts between Christmas and New years, but that people have gotten discounts at the Swan and Dophin. Thanks for you help.

Last year we used an AP rate for our stay at the Dolphin (the Swan was sold out) for 12/26-1/2. I think we paid $179 pn. This year we were at the Dolphin with a rate of $149pn(12/25-1/1). I had called the hotel directly for a special rate that was on their website for $199 per nt and the res agent gave me the special of $149! Swan/Dolphin had a few specials that were running for holiday time. I think that between your AP,AAA, and hotel specials, you should be able to find a good rate. If you accumulate enough Starwood points you could use them for free nights. I don't recall ever seeing Swan/Dolphin for cash & points at holiday time. Good luck. We LOVE the Swan.

We were at the Swan from 12/27 - 1/1 2005. I booked off the Swan website and was able to get a government rate of $149.00. I made the reservation a full year before our trip. Initially I booked only 4 nights and then decided to add on the fifth night. At first I was not able to add the extra night for $149.00 but about 3 weeks before our trip the rate dropped and I was able to add New Year's Eve at the discount price.

I expected that we would have a parking lot view but at check-in I was told that because I had a Starwood Preferred card I had been upgraded. We had a beautiful view looking directly across to the Dolphin. Good luck with finding a good rate. We loved the location of the Swan. After enjoying the NYE fireworks at Epcot we walked back to the room.
