I am curious to know how the Swan and Dolphin compares to the moderates? I understand that you can get a government rate at the Swan and Dolphin, with those rates are they comparative in price to the moderates? How about ammenities?

Thanks.

Personally, I think this hotel is more on a deluxe level. The hotel is incredibly gorgeous. The rooms are really spacious and very comfortable. There are multiple pools and onsite dining. There is also a boat service to Epcot and MGM.

I agree with kilee.
I've stayed in both and the S/D is much nicer than the moderates. Esp. with those Heavenly Beds. I can't wait to sleep in one of those again!

The Swan and Dolphin are definitely deluxe! The rooms are top notch, and the location is wonderful.

The Swan and Dolphin are much nicer! Deluxe pool area, several restaurants, heavenly beds and interior hallways are just some of the amenities. I've been battling for a discounted rate at either resort for a long time so if you can get one, grab it! :)

You might want to post this on the resorts board if you haven't already- you may get more reponses?

This is just my opinion, but I'd always choose the Dolphin over a mod.

The location is fabulous, the hotel is beautiful with spacious rooms and, really, the best beds anywhere at WDW, the service is great, plus you earn points toward future stays at Sheraton/Westin hotels. I've been eligible for free stays at other locations due to all those points I racked up at the Dolphin. I also get upgraded due to my Starwood Preferred Guest card.

We stay at the gov't rate and the price can't be beat for what you get.

Thanks.

Does anyone know if you can check rates online for the Swan and Dolphin? And is one better than the other?

I'd say that the Swolphin is a "mediocre deluxe" rather than a "superior moderate". It has interior hallways, room service, valet parking, fine dining, and other trappings of deluxe hotels, and share, with the BoardWalk and Yacht and Beach Club, perhaps the best location in all of WDW. However, they are not Disney resorts, and often folks who are used to Disney's hotels really notice the difference.

You can reserve rooms for the two resorts here:
http://www.swandolphin.com/reserve/reserve.html
There may be better places to look up rates, though.

The level of service is the same between the two, as is the quality of the accommodations. The Dolphin is more of the "HQ" which is both good and bad. When there is a big business conference, it'll be focused most heavily at the Dolphin rather than the Swan. Really, really big business conference will utilize both resorts fully, and spill-over into the Disney resorts as well.

We've stayed at CBR , POFQ and Dolphin - The Dolphin was definately better then the mods!! We loved it and will definately return! I still dream abut the heavenly beds....mmmmmmmmmmm :flower:

I didn't care for our stay at the Dolphin--of course, when you start out your hotel visit with someone else's crap still in the toilet, it puts a damper on the rest of your stay.

We were only there for one night prior to a cruise, and it was much too cool to use the pool, which looks awesome. Also, our room overlooked the fountain, which is normally a beautiful view, but not when it was emptied, and in bad need of a cleaning. I was glad I only spent $99 for the room.

Thanks for the link. I have heard about folks getting really good rate, where does one go to find those? The cheapest rate on the website was $175 for a government rate.

The Swan/Dolphin is definitely a deluxe. The only Disney deluxe I have stayed in is the Contemporary. S/D is much nicer, especially when considering room decor, bedding, service, pool, and landscaping. The Swan is a Westin and the Dolphin, a Sheraton, so they have a high level of service. The location is also great. The Contemporary had bigger standard rooms and proximity to MK, but that's the only thing it had over the Swan/Dolphin. Oh yeah, and the monorail, but I actually like the walking/boating to Epcot and MGM.

I think both the Swan and Dolphin are very beautiful. DH and I were strolling about both hotels trying to decide which one we preferred before making a reservation. He brought my attention to the fact that they're not kept up as well as Disney properties. I was shocked to see dirty and peeling wallpaper in many areas throughout the buildings. He refused to book in either of them!
I *still* feel they're both beautiful and in a fabulous location and even with a bit of peeling wallpaper, I'd MUCH prefer them to a moderate.

The S/D is more comparable to a deluxe than a moderate. It is definitely a step or two above the moderates.

The Swan is a Westin and the Dolphin, a Sheraton
This is no longer true. They're both Starwoods hotels, but administered as resorts separate from those specific brands. Indeed, they're substantially administered as a single resort.
