This was a last minute trip for us so we had to split resorts since the Swan was sold out for sat. and sunday. We requested a balcony room with the govt. rate. We saw the new revolving front entrance door upon arrival. I dont like it. I used the side door due to mobility issues and dizziness etc. Also there was construction that required you to practically walk in the street to get to the bus stop which you had to do if a family with a stroller or wheelchair etc. was on the sidewalk at the same time. Also the christmas decorations were seriously lacking. The lobby tree didnt even have a topper of any sort and the christmas scene with the village and train was located by the Garden Grove restraunt. Our room was on the 4th floor with a view of the resort. Well after the bellman left I started hearing loud noises. I thought it was one of the teen ds fooling around. No, it was hammering and pounding construction noise right over our heads. Not good. Also there was construction out the back so you had to use the side door detours to the boat docks. Very inconvenient. We ended up using the side door by the bar sometimes. The construction sometimes started at 8:30 am. Not good if you had little ones and was all during the day. We were in the room at different times. It calmed down by around 4:30 and by friday it was much more calm, but it figures we were leaving the next day. Didnt bother dh and the ds because they sleep through practically anything. The bus service was good. I didnt enjoy sharing the 5 epcot resorts bus to AK. I wish they would change this. I missed the oatmeal soap they used to have here but everyone liked the smell of the new shampoo and conditioner. It was not a bad stay but I dont think it was worth the money we had to pay with all the construction going on. Also this place really doesnt give you the christmas spirit if you really want that.
Dolphin 12/1 to 12/3 - The bellman brought our luggage over from the Swan to the Dolphin. We got 2 rooms here since dh and I are big people and the ds didnt want to share double sized beds either. We tried this at the dolphin last time and it was a disaster with just one room. Dh requested a balcony room with close or connecting rooms. We got connecting rooms but the ds room was not ready. They said they would call dh cell phone when it was ready and they never did. Our room was nice but oh so far away. It was the 4th floor, west elevator. I will look up the room numbers if someone wants them. The bathroom was really small. The lobby decorations were beautiful. We saw the one family get to turn on the christmas tree one night. There was also a huge conference of 125 familys from the Road to Recovery Program for wounded Iraq soldiers. They just touched my heart. The lobby was beautifully themed and the resort was very, very busy. Some news crews were there too to film the conference for the local news. One day there were serious issues with our safe. It broke and dh could not get in. It was a real hassle between security and the front desk and took up a huge chunk of our time that could have been in the parks etc. Also our ice machine was broke and the ds didnt feel like finding another one. I also saw yes, 1, and only 1 little bug crawling on the floor when I was taking a shower. On the last night dh and I were in the room doing the packing etc. I looked out the window and saw illuminations. I called dh and told him to come look. It was awesome. I laid on the bed and watched it and he went out on the patio to see it. He said other people on their balconys on the other side were complaining they couldnt see the fireworks. The cm checking dh in said we got a great deal on the rooms, we got $169 with the govt. rate for the view with the balcony. It was really a resort view but you could see the fireworks through the palm trees. Best room we ever had between both resorts. We also saw some huge, huge fish in the water below. Anyone else ever seen these? Also was glad to see the oatmeal soap here. This trip we liked the Dolphin better than the Swan, but overall the Swan is our 2nd favorite after the Polynesian.
