I've been checking fares from PVD to MCO regularly to see if we can save some money on our trip in mid August. Last night when I checked, the lowest fares (not including Internet one-way) were either 127 for Promotional Fares and 147 for Fun Fares (which were already up from 122 and 144). When I checked again this morning, the lower fares are now 137 for Promotional and 157 for Fun fares.

I dont remember seeing anything on the news about another round of fare hikes.

This is not looking good...

I am going 9/28 to 10/4. About a month ago I got ansy because it did not look like SW was going to lower their fares, so I went ahead and booked at $240 RT from PVD. This was the first time I have ever paid over $200 to fly to Orlando...I usually get fares about $150-$175 RT.

The very next morning they offered specials on their website, so I was able to cancel and rebook and got our RT airfare for $135 per person.

Last year I flew down mid-September, bought our tickets in August and got a great fare of $116 out of Hartford.

I'd probably book now if you can find a half decent fare and check continuously to see if they go down....

Good Luck!

Don't give up yet. If you have DING downloaded, you can check a couple of times a day for specials. Just last week that is how I got $45 from PVD - MCO in September. Like you, I originally paid about $240 r/t pp, panicked, but since then between DINGS and internet specials, I have it down to $145 pp. r/t. Just keep checking!

I'm not giving up yet. We've been flying SWA long enough to know that the fares usually come around. I already got pretty good fares for the return leg ($69 pp), now I'm just waiting to bring our outbound leg ($144) down some. I was just surprised to see the fare increase with no advance notice.

for DING fares and internet specials. In the beginning of June, I was thnking I wouldn't be able to get a decent fare. Then SWA released an internet special: $59 each way out of Hartford. I'll be heading down July 25th for a week.

:yay: :yay: :yay:

Also, if you're willing to travel mid week, Tuesdays seem to offer the best bang for the buck.

I'm afraid as fuel costs continue to rise, airfares will rise also, even Southwest. JMO

I initially booked in April for August 11 with a return on the 18th. We are going with another family (10 of us total) and I wanted to make sure we at least had seats on a flight for all of us. I booked as two one way flights at a pretty high rate. Last month got a DING for the outward flight of 59 one way and just last week got a DING for the flight home of 55 one way. The only downside is I now have a $600 credit but with AP's and the DVC I see another trip in March coming up! Keep looking!

Why can't they bring back the $59 one-way specials? Don't they know that with these high rates we can't afford to go on vacation?

COME ON LOW DECEMBER RATES!!!

Just want to wish you good luck.

I was sure I'd seen the last of the $135.60 or $115.60 RT prices. I was all set to book our party of 7 at $205.60 when I got the $44 ding on June 5th. $105.60. :cool1:

Hope you find a great fare. :wizard:

As a previous poster mentioned, there were $59 one way specials for a few days to Orlando from many airports in the northeast. I got four round trip tickets for $548!!!! It was a short sale...only a couple of days.

The key is to check daily...all of the airline sites. Thats what I did.

Um, well, I don't think they care. As with any business, Southwest's ultimate goal is to maximize income and profits (a pretentious way of saying "they're in it for the money").

Yes, yes they are, and that is good business practice and it seems to work for them. :)

Wait, does this mean that even everyday people, like us, don't look out for number 1 first? I guess I just have a jaded view of the world.
