i'm trying to book travel from Long Island (Islip) to Buffalo on SWA and it seems that they do not offer flights... i'm not even asking for "direct" flights but any flights...

the only "sensible" way i can see to get there would be to travel from ISP to Baltimore... collect my bags at baggage claim (or only bring carry-on)... then re-check my bags and get on a flight from Baltimore to Buffalo... same thing in reverse for the return... booking two separate ressies (one roundtrip Islip/ Baltimore and the other Baltimore/Buffalo) or four separate ressies (one way each Islip/Balt, Balt/Buff, Buff/Balt, Balt/Islip)...

anyone have a better solution? and/or an explanation why swa won't offer an indirect flight to buffalo?

I don't know why SW doesn't fly direct from Islip to Buffalo, but what about the other airlines at Islip MacArthur? Doesn't AirTran (I think that's the name) fly direct to Buffalo? There always used to be direct flights from Islip to Buffalo, but I can't remember which airline. :confused3 Good luck!

I'm not sure where you are on Long Island, but if you aren't too far from JFK, Jet Blue has cheap flights to Buffalo.

My only suggestion to make it easier for you is to try a different airline. Actually, what your suggestion is is an indirect flight to Buffalo.
They do not fly from NY, RI, or CT to Buffalo. It is not a very profitable route, hence to keep costs down, they don't do it.
Another idea is to call SWA and see what they can offer as a solution.

Airtran only flies to Atlanta and Orlando out of Buffalo. From what I remember, there used to be a small airline called Shuttle America that flew directly to Islip from Buffalo several years ago. They've since been bought by USAirways and I think that route no longer exists.

As to the OP's post, I've tried to do the same thing using different combinations of airlines to various 'nearby' cities, and it didn't work. I would have ended up having to do what you mentioned. You may have better luck checking USAirways and flying through Philly.

Have you checked out MacArthur's web site to see if another airline goes up to Buffalo?

Btw, where on L.I. are you?

There is no good way to get from Islip to Buffalo. Only way to do it is Jet Blue from JFK

thanks all for sharing your input, thoughts, suggestions, knowledge... i'm out east, past riverhead on the north fork, so driving to kennedy is not only a pita but a costly proposition (either gas/parking or car service) *and* i have swa ticketless travel funds to use...

i think i will call swa and see what they say... thanks again!! :)

Ahhh, you're out there. That is a pain trying to get to an airport from out East.

We just did our annual family pumpkin picking at Harbes Farms last weekend. And of course had to stop off at Briemere's (yum!) :)

Good luck with your search!
