SWA DINGs becoming flight specific??

I have noticed the last 2 DINGs have been mostly flight number specific. Interesting.

Can you please tell me what a "DING" is? I'm trying to fly during the holidays (12/27-1/2) and the fares are eating my lunch!

DING is a program you download from Southwest's website and it will notify you on a daily basis of any airfare specials they may have for the day.

Here is an example:

Manchester to Baltimore for $39 One-Way on Flight 2118 Only!
- Fare is valid for travel Sundays only, July 16 through July 16, 2006
- Fare may not be offered each way
- Fare is valid for travel on Flight 2118 only

Thanks for clarifying that. We have a sticky little situation in Dallas called the Wright Amendment, which allows Southwest to only fly to neighboring states, so we have to connect in Houston or New Orleans for all flights in that direction. So, I'm not sure how handy the dings will be for us, but I'll certainly give it a shot!

I'm new to this board (this will be only my second time to Disney, the first being when I was 12), and I've been thrilled by the information that I've been able to gather here!

i noticed the flight specific deal the other day... but also discovered that no matter which flight you clicked on, it brought you to the list and you could see all flights that day and their prices (including ding fares)...

Just FYI, you are not likely to see any DING fares for flights on major travel days such as 12/27 and 1/2.

Ding is used to move seats on flights that are undersold, and that doesn't happen very often around major holidays.

After a few days of getting DINGS about specific FLIGHTS, the ones I got today are not only for specific flight #s but are also only good for one specific day (July 15...tomorrow, to be exact!). How weird is that? I can be spontaneous but not THAT spontaneous!!!!

I just signed up for Ding. Is it always just for a few days ahead.? And the specific flight numbers? It wasn't what i thought i guess..

Keep watching. The Wright Amendment appears to be dead. SW is also flying out of DFW now.... I just checked and didn't see any MCO flights, but that can and probably will change.

As for the DINGs, I really thought this was what DINGS were going to do when they first came out. Sell tickets on specific flights and days that SW hadn't sold at regular prices. They have been more "general" then that, but SW has been upgrading it's IT and this may be the result.

are you sure? did you change the dates at the top of the page? i believe it defaults to tomorrow or the next day automatically...

Nope today had DINGS for Sat July 15 and Sun July 16 on specific flights.
