I'm going to book my Christmas flights with SW next week when they open. Last year, the flights came out high in price and then dropped. I expect the same thing to happen. How do I book my flight so I can easily get the credit when one leg of the flight drops in price? Do I need to book the to and from legs separately? If I book the round trip and one flight goes up in price and the other down, can I keep the one flight at the lower price and get the credit for the second? Any tips are appreciated.

TIA

yes book them separately. That way you can get credit for each leg if it goes down.

I'm in the same boat just waiting for fares to come out and I'll go from there depending on what they are. My flight for June has gone up and down repeatedly over the past 2 weeks and I've cancelled and rebooked 2x now for a total savings of $42. I figure I'll be booking tickets again within a year so it's not like I won't use the credits up.

ETA~ I just checked and it's gone back up $20 since last night! LOL

Unless you intent to take advantage of DING fares, there is no need to book your legs seprately in order to get credit from SWA. You can easily change any flight on a reservation with their online Change Reservation option. Any savings you get will be a credit towards future use within 1 year of your original booking date.
